Any personal goals for yourself?

Um, hopefully just stepping my game up, getting better, something like that.

Um, Not Exactly a Comment to Get Excited About

This is the kind of comment I could expect from Andray Blatche during his first offseason. A mention of his work on defense would be appreciated. He needs to do a lot more on that end of the floor than just “step up” and “get better”. He needs a complete overhaul of all of his bad habits.

oh great

sounds like he’s got a rock-solid plan laid-out. jesus, he sounds hopelessly stupid.

harsh

He is Working out with kids while answereing questios. Sorry if he didn’t elaborate enough. Doesn’t mean he sounds hopelessly stupid.

I agree with this

I flag him for being uninteresting, not for him not having a plan. It’s possible he doesn’t, but I don’t think we can read too much into that with this quote.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

I agree

The only thing of interest to Wizards fans here is in the comments, where it’s speculated by a couple people who have seen McGee recently that he has grown since college (i.e. he’s now bigger than 7’0").

Oh well. I’m pretty sure I was still pushing the idea that Fred Rogers was a child murderer and rapist and that Donnie Darko was the greatest movie ever when I was 21. I forgive the kid for being exactly what he is – a 21 yr old kid.

For the Record

I’ve served in the military, and I’ve come across more than a fair share of very mature 18-21 year olds. Guys you could trust with your life. To be perfectly honest, I wasn’t one of them. And by the looks of this comment, JaVale McGee is not one of them either. But 21 is still old enough to drink a beer and old enough to die for your country, so it is not unfair to expect a little bit more maturity from him.

I think JaVale is going to be just fine...

We are all a bit spoiled by having quotable guys like Gil and Caron around…. as well as pretty insightful and measured ones like Brendan and Antawn… to say nothing of DeShawn’s attitude. Even Andray (the milk quote stands out) can rise to the occasion.

JaVale is still growing physically, emotionally and intellectually. Let’s see what he does between the lines and n the paint!

Yeah

I was really upset that he said “um”. It shows lack of forethought. I say trade him.

Javale has been working out

I posted a fanshot a few days ago but it got “lost” during the Miller and Foye trade and the draft. It was about Javale wanting to add 15 pounds this summer and that he’s already halfway there.

Here’s the fanshot for those that didn’t see it

Just so we're clear

I only posted this because I’ve always found it interesting how on a team with so many quotable players that JaVale is rather dry when it comes to being quoted. He has more personality than he’s given credit for, he just expresses it through his workout videos and that commercial he filmed with Nick and Andray. There’s no doubt in my mind that JaVale is working on improving himself this year, even if his quote isn’t the most reassuring thing in the world.

I Agree

That we shouldn’t take too much away from one out-of-context quote. But at the same time, great players know what their weaknesses are, and tend to have very specific goals. They attack their workouts with specificity and focus, and don’t just generally “work out” so that they can “step up” and “get better”.

Now, it is very possible that JaVale is specific with his goals and his workouts, but this quote does not indicate that and does not give fans of his, like me, hope.

You guys are all kidding, right?

Tell me you’re not reading this very short, off the cuff interview done WHILE the guy was playing with a bunch of kids and thinking it’s a sign of anything.

Seriously

Why does everything have to be examined like grand jury testimony?

i think this quote is entertaining

it’s unintentionally funny. that’s a good thing in my book. defintely more interesting than if he had spouted the cliches without seeming disinterested or confused by the question.
