I'd put

Anderson at the top, since Lee’s unattainable. I wouldn’t mind Wilcox either. ARTEST would be VERY interesting. Probably wouldn’t fit on this team, but he’s the closest there is to a Lebron stopper, and he could shut down Vince.

by CJHutch on Jun 26, 2009 4:27 PM EDT reply actions

Andersen would be perfect

This team is built to run, and Andersen is a big Danish shot blocker with a motor.

Mike Miller was talking about how versatile the wizards lineup is already, Andersen could spell both ’tawn and Haywood.

Anyone know what would it take to sign him?

A drug rehab program that dc doesn't have

Anderson needed Denver because they had a drug rehab program that dc doesn’t have. I doubt he leaves Denver.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

First, you get negative points for italicizing Ruffin

Others will note and debate the better players on this list, and of course that would be preferred. If the Wizards are going to be limited to giving someone just $1 million or so, though, the guy that intrigues me a bit is Shelden Williams. I know he has been a bust, but as this team’s fifth big, he can play PF or C, and is tough and a terrific rebounder. Just the kind of guy the Wizards need. Of course, if the Wizards can get those attributes in a better package, great. He might also be hungry to salvage his career.

Michael Ruffin Would Make an Excellent Backup

For Gheorghe Muresan on the executive nacho cheese dispenser in the front office.

I would have a grin on my face for alot of the season if we did bring him back – but its kind of a waste of money and a roster spot.

Still <3 Ruffin

I think we can offer a good share of the MLE

Because we passed on the draft. My list is two deep:

Marcin Gortat or Zaza Pachulia

I’m leaning towards Pachulia because Gortat’s value is inflated by the playoffs (though he was mighty impressive). We just need someone who can help Haywood man the paint.

Get an MLE now and go for the big fish at the trade deadline.

by gorebd on Jun 26, 2009 4:57 PM EDT reply actions

we really need a Zaza or a gortat

i perfer gortat he is young, good defensively, ha some post game he would be a great fit.
from the rest of the FA’s i like walter hermman, hollins, rasho, shelden, and mcdyess if we can sign them for the minimum. there is always the chance of trading james for a quality big man.

by wizchamp on Jun 26, 2009 8:05 PM EDT up reply actions

gortat

i didn’t see much of the playoffs this year so i missed him.

i do remember him SMOKING pecherov during garbage time in a game the season before last. the funny thing is, that is when i officially gave up on pech.

of course, it turns out gortat is good. (still think pech is awful though.)

Aran Gray 280 7’1 of BANG

we could use him when we face SHAQ

he can bang in the post and he can kick the ball out for the pass …
he would be nice to have on our bench he adds alot of beef to our skinny bigs
he reminds me of Mark Gasol a little

by eltacoman on Jun 26, 2009 5:11 PM EDT reply actions

Plus

If we got Aaron Gray, Javale would never get practice time because Gray’s too tough a match up for him.

lol hey do the Gasols have another brother we need to pick him up if they do :)

by eltacoman on Jun 26, 2009 5:15 PM EDT reply actions

I am intrigued by the following names that seem attainable(ish):

Leon Powe (good fit, won’t be cheap enough, probably stays in beantown)

Rob Kurz (bad fit for what we need – but if we can sign him cheap he is actually a pretty interesting younger Songaila-type replacement)

Joel Anthony (defense only, knows his role – looks like he is going back to Miami)

Zaza Pachulia (pretty good fit, but he would quadruple our team amount of body hair – might have to spend the money we got by selling Blair to replace the team shower drains multiple times a year)

Antonio McDyess (really good fit, but I’d like to add a taller player if possible – not sure I see him leaving Detroit)

Rasheed Wallace (really good fit if he 1) shuts up 2) stops jacking 3s and starts posting up – I don’t see him doing 1 or 2, but its worth discussing)

Rasho Nesterovic (veteran, seems to have some game year, decently physical)

Adonal Foyle (defense only, cheap, high character guy)

Shawn Marion (probably too expensive – good piece if he shuts up and we can get him for MLE)

by Manimal Smith on Jun 26, 2009 5:54 PM EDT reply actions

top of my list is Shelden Williams

Shelden Williams 26 – 6’9" 258 lbs of BANG!
the 2005 and 2006 NABC Defensive Player of the Year
2006 5th overall pick ….. same class as Foye

aggressive style of play and shot-blocking ability earned him the nickname The Landlord
if we could pick him up for the MLE would be awesome

funny thing is he is a Timberwolves free agent lol … we are just loading up on them :D
hey maybe Ernie and Khan made side deal to let Williams go if we sign him to a contract since Ernie had interest in him before when he was in Atlanta,,, they want Haywood for him then but Ernie bulked now we could get him for the MLE

duke fan

i watched sheldon a lot considering im a duke fan. he’s got great talent and upside he just needs time to develop and needs to be given a chance. would be interesting to see him here

Rookie FA

Has anyone looked into the undrafted rookie FAs? I haven’t but there is usually one to three good steals per draft class maybe our answer could be there it would come cheap and a young guy who doesn’t get drafted will carry a chip on his shoulder will want to prove something…

Hakim Warrick… loved him at SU in college loved him also played with some good players there as well…
Swift i dont like never panned out well in the nba for his potential one of the few busts in the top 3 picks of this decade reminds me of tyrus thomas great ability just doesnt put it together consistantly every night we dont need that

dont give shelden the MLE he has not shown anything to get that 4 or 5 mil a year thatd be a clipper move

dice was apart of that billups trade last year and didnt want to stick around in denver and wanted back in motown i dont see him leaving there unless they dont want him

Okur would be interesting on the offensive end but wouldnt help on the defensive end…

Wilcox and Ely would be pretty interesting i wouldnt mind either suiting up for us i wonder if wilcox would want to come back to the area where he played his college ball

dont see Varejao leaving a cavs uni espically now that he can learn some tricks from shaq and plus i dont think the cavs would let him go

i believe if we target a big man the two goals we look for is a power forward who can defend and rebound and defending should come first

finally i do see deshawn having a bigger role than everyone else does this year remember he was a big part of this team and if he becomes healthy he had good team chemistry with gil on and off hte court
and will people please never say anything about jamison getting traded again ITS NOT GONNA HAPPEN remember the only way gil was gonna sign last year was if we resigned jamison and thats what we did first if we lose jamison gil is gonna get sour and hes gonna be an unhappy 8 figure camper

Full MLE for Paul Milsap? 13.5/8.6 in 30 minutes per last season. I see him as a great uncaged beast to pair with McGee. Not the size I was looking for though.

Sheed ain’t playing for Flip, ever.

Shelden Williams could be offered a little over the vet minimum with a team option for a second year. he has done nothing to be worth the Full MLE. That doens’t mean someone won’t offer it because some gm’s are desperate. 2 years/3Mil (total) sounds about right. Problem is he made 3,395M last year so that’s a big step down. So 3M might be the starting point for him. I culd see a team like his hometown Thunder paying him that.

I like Joe Smith as an option too. he doesn’t add bulk but he can defend, rebound and hit jump shots.

by Jheiser3 on Jun 27, 2009 2:37 PM EDT reply actions

Yea

Milsap has been reported as saying that he wants the same as lee, who apparently wants 10mil/year so throw both of those out of the blue and gold

by gilbachi on Jun 27, 2009 4:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes and ..

I think he is a bit undersized for our needs. He would be an absolute steal at the MLE – but we need someone who is in the 6’10 6’11 range so they can slide over to the 5.

by Manimal Smith on Jun 27, 2009 8:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Exactly

We shouldn’t pursue Millsap for the same reason we didn’t draft DeJuan Blair. We need a PF/C, not just a short PF.

milsap

worth a try at least. rumor i’m hearing is that gms won’t be tossing money around like they used to…

by DarrellWalkerFan on Jun 28, 2009 12:00 AM EDT up reply actions

Who?

I’m sure he wants more. Counting Utah, Detroit, Memphis, how many other teams can give it to him? All these guys can want what they want. There aren’t enough teams with salary cap room to pay them all.
