The 'Trade'
It hurts now ..
But opinions can easily change …..
I still have hope for the team we have.
Representing DC with Wizards & Stuff - Truth About It.net and Bullets Forever.
I'm still excited about the trade...
I mean, not having Rubio sucks, but I’m buying into what we have now and hopefully we’ll get a big man.
not
a fan of Jennings. Sounded like a b*$%h in his interviews. And couldn’t get on the floor in Italy.
That picture hurts Prada
Ok so lets start taking bets on whether we sell the #32 pick. What are the current odds?
No one has taken Blair yet
I’m just sayin’…
More likely than not, there will be someone worth taking at 32. Mills would make sense, as would anyone over 6’10 who can move. Can’t imagine us trying to guard Shaq with a rotation of Blatche, Haywood, and McGee.

its so hard to still have hope
still feel the need for another move if we think we’re gonna have any sort of chacne.
evaflowin.blogspot.com
I think you already know the answer to that question.
Dumb. Impatient. Short-sighted.
At best, Miller and Foye will be the team’s 4th and 5th best players, more likely the 5th and 6th best players. In time, Rubio could have been the 2nd or 3rd best player on the team.
I hear you
But the key is “in time.” We are supposed to win now. Now, there’s nothing wrong with thinking we need to rebuild or plan for the future, but I think that trying to win in the next 2-3 years is just as valid an approach.
Getting buckets since 2003.

Not sure
It’s no guarantee that Rubio will even be as good as Miller or Foye this year so I’m not angry but I’m not happy. Rubio could be an allstar in a few years and that’s when it’ll probably hurt a lot more.
be realistic
we’re not winning this year with Foye and Miller. So this year doesn’t matter. We MAY get the 5 seed. 4 would be a reach.
In that case
We may not have won this year if we had Rubio. You honestly think that Rubio is already better than Foye AND Miller and would help us reach the top by himself? All I’m saying is there’s no guarantees.
we are screwed… rubio would have been amazing, ernie grunfield probably feels like a retard after rubio went 5th
Kid's 18
As Mike Jones (who?) put it:
It’s easy right now if you’re a Wizards fan to feel a twinge of regret seeing Rubio slide to five, but given the Wizards’ situation, which includes already having an All-Star point guard in Gilbert Arenas, and Rubio’s agent not wanting him to go anywhere other than a place where he could run the show, perhaps they were better off.
Rubio is a gamble. He is. He’s not a sure thing. The other important element here: Rubio can’t shoot. Nash could shoot from day one, as could Pistol. All the comparisons are not only premature, but ridiculous. Look at what Ainge has been saying about his Oscar-like point guard: he killed us in the Orlando series because he could be left WIDE open so they could double up on our better guys.
I like where we are at, and I’ll like it even more once Ernie makes his next move. Ernie is a lot better at this than we are. :)
The East is OPEN
eff Shaq .. eff Vince Carter
It’s someone else’s turn to experience a ton of injuries
EASTERN CONFERENCE FINALS BABY!!!!
Representing DC with Wizards & Stuff - Truth About It.net and Bullets Forever.
That's more like it!
Plus, we don’t know how healthy Shaq will be come April, nor do we know how well Vince Carter will mesh with the Magic. He’s a good passer, but they could use a pure distributor.
by pantslessyoda1 on Jun 25, 2009 9:05 PM EDT up reply actions
Right now I’d say the Wizards have as good a shot at the #4 seed as any other team. And it’s possible they’ll end up better. Personally, while I liked the trade, I’m on the fence now knowing that we could’ve gotten Rubio. But at least for the next couple years the Wizards will be a better team undoubtedly because of the trade. And who knows how good this team can be…
by Johnnie Futbol on Jun 25, 2009 9:10 PM EDT up reply actions
Realistically
Rubio has the potential to be truly great… All-Star level talent. Potentially 1st Team All-NBA…
but
It will take some time…. Like when the Wizards traded the 5th pick for Antawn Jamison (and the 5th pick was Devin Harris)
AND Devin Harris became a very good player… but it took 4 years (his 3rd year, he was only averaging 10 points, and 3.7 assists)
Bullets Forever - where "Dagger ! " happens......
if we
don’t hold out to see ho drops, I’m going to throw up. Should’ve learned our lesson anyway. ’Sides, we could still pick Patty Mills.
Ernie's going to need to pull one of the top 8 players in the draft
with the second round pick in order to save his butt for the Rubio error.
Terrence Williams?
Really? At 11?
After Rubio slipping and the Wolves taking 2 PGs, I kinda wonder if someone spiked the water bottles in the draft rooms …
Hey, I'd rather be competitive AND have spending money next year
Than to be selling our top players like New Jers.

wont go away unless we change our name and logo. its time for the change!

Plus, we wouldn’t even really need him, since he could only play power forward. We really just need another tough guy who can slide to the 5 occasionally.

I have no problem with the trade except....
We don’t know the exact nature of the trade talk between Minnesota and Wash prior to the trade, or if any team knew that Sacramento was gonna pass up Rubio, so i’m speaking on this matter without knowing all the facts, but on its face, Grunfeld half-blew this trade.
It looks like David Kahn (minn’s GM) got the better of Grunfeld at the poker table.
It’s clear now that Minn reallllyyy wanted Rubio.
Grunfeld should have recognized that and kept this pick until Rubio slipped to the Wiz.
He then would have been in a much more powerful bargaining position with Rubio in our pockets. Minn surely would have at least taken Stevenson and maybe even given back the 18th pick as well. Or there might have been more lucrative offers for Rubio than what Minn was willing to offer.
If we had of kept this pick and used it on someone i would’ve rather had stephen curry than Rubio. Rubio is a much more high risk/high reward pick in my opinion.
Hindsight is always 20/20
I do think we got proven commodities that can help our core right away, which Ernie is clearly trying to do because of Abe.
I also think that the Wiz are not done wheeling and dealing
Yeah, if you want to speculate though ...
… let’s assume the Wizards know they could have taken Rubio at 5, and decided they prefer Miller/Foye, which is not out of the realm of possibility.
You could look at it the other way … Grunfeld acted fast, so that he took advantage of Minnesota’s desire to get Rubio at 5 even though there was no way of guaranteeing a team ahead of them didn’t pick him or trade the pick to someone who would.
Second-guessing is easy.
Still waiting for the Eagles to Bring It Home For Jerome
Think about this, though
What will you be kicking yourself over — missing the chance to draft Rubio, or missing the chance to pick up Miller and Foye?
saying Kahn got Gruns on the river?
Then I don’t take away from Gruns.
Representing DC with Wizards & Stuff - Truth About It.net and Bullets Forever.
In Ernie's defense
If we drafted Rubio or Curry, could we sign them and still get a big with the MLE and still have room to sign Haywood and Butler?
Wait
Golden State just got Amare? Golden State?
The best Golden State had to offer was Biedrins, and we could have given them Butler. Ugh.

That's true but...
I’m shocked at the hype over an 18 year old player. He’s not exactly LeBron, yet I’ve heard things on various boards like he’s a once-in-a-lifetime talent. Really? He’s Chris Paul good? For that matter he’s Jameer Nelson or Rajon Rondo good? If he’s not that good then he will essentially be Foye good. In reality, there is a huge chance he will be a complete bust, the next Darko.
The truth is we can’t afford another Kwame and assuming he’s healthy he would be a project behind our best player (assuming he’s healthy.) Meanwhile we had a huge gaping hole at 2 guard. That hole is now filled with capable NBA players. Not only that we ditched Etan’s contract that seems like good work to me.

Ernie on Washington Post Live today
Ernie was interviewed on Washington Post Live at about 5 PM, here’s my transcript of his Rubio comments:
Ivan Carter: Did you feel there was a chance that Ricky Rubio may fall to the 5 spot?
Ernie: Well he may fall there, we don’t know. We know that 3,4 players may have gotten there but if its Ricky Rubio or anybody else, I don’t think anybody at the 5 spot would have come anywhere close to helping us as much as these 2 players (Miller and Foye)

Why couldn't we swap
Why didn’t we swap 32 for 28 in our trade with Minny? it’d be easy to bump up from 28 to here to get Blair.

I watched every OSU game this year
Mullens will be a bust. He got drafted based off his height. He has no fundamentals. The only reason he was the #1 highschool player last year was because he was playing in division III. in college it was like Thabeet versus Blair every night.

Guys
I actually think this is possible.
Why? Nobody wants to take on guaranteed money in this economy, so they’re just drafting Euros they don’t have to pay yet. Coming up, we have the following teams that could pick Blair.
-Chicago, who has tax concerns
-Memphis, who stinks
-Minnesota, who has eight zillion power forwards
-The Lakers, who have tax concerns and basically admitting they are selling
-Sacramento, who has a lot of PFs
Cleveland’s the real worry here.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
Blair doesn't have a jump shot

If Blair is off the board
I think the Wizards should take Josh Heytvelt
Josh Heytvelt - 6’11" 260 PF (39, ??,42)
Another Senior. Unfortunately, Hytvelt is not as experienced as some of the other Seniors in this draft because he has had foot injuries and off-court issues. I only saw 3 Gonzaga games, so my knowledge base on Hytvelt is limited. What struck me was that I expected to see this big lumbering guy, but instead I saw a very athletic player. He can get up with the best of them (34 inch vertical); combined that with his excellent length (9’0" standing reach) and the tools are there. Heytvelt showed a nice touch from mid-range and the ability to finish strong around the basket – usually with a forceful dunk. Hytvelt looked to be a pretty good rebounder. He didn’t block any shots while I was watching, but I would think he has that ability, based on his leaping ability and length.
He’s not much of a passer, having difficulties passing out of double-teams; and had trouble sometimes keeping his man from backing him down. Didn’t seem to be a very good defender. He needs to work on his advanced post moves… as the only thing I saw him do consistently was a turn around jumper.
Hytvelt has some upside, especially if he can continue to regain the athleticism he lost after the injuries in his Sophomore year.
