State your biases here

In honor of one of my favorite BF posts of all time, I thought it would be nice if we all stated our biases (both present and past) towards the Wizards. The Mike Miller trade has brought out both the best and the worst (and the hilarious) in our community, and it might benefit us all if we knew what point of views different members have. Think of it like AA, only with a basketball bent. I'll start, and hopefully we will all now a bit more about our Bullets/Wizards history.

My name is ledellforlife

I wish Jamison would dunk more.

I probably overvalued Darius Songalia.

I definitely overvalued (but loved) AD.

I thought Etan was  the answer at center (ugh)

so I still dislike  Brendan (damn you stats!)

Secretly, I miss Michael Ruffin.

And I don't like #5 picks in weak drafts.

There, I feel better. I won't go into my feeling on Jahidi White, or my love of all things Chris Whitney or Tim Legler.

This represents the view of the user who wrote the FanPost, and not the entire Bullets Forever community. We're a place of many opinions, not just one.

i have too many to list

but currently i’m biased against blatche. probably the only one on the team i have real issues with.

i’m also seriously worried stevenson is done, but i don’t dislike him.

i liked AD a whole lot too.

i bet ledell could still drop 20 in an nba game.

I'll bite

I hate shooting guards that shoot too much, but I just can’t hate Nick Young.

I became a Darius Songaila convert at some point during last season. I don’t remember when, but I know I was sad to see him go yesterday.

Like ledell and DWFan, I was a big fan of AD. I think you’d be hard pressed to find someone who didn’t like him.

My feelings on Antawn Jamison fluctuate wildly every 2-3 weeks.

I know I’m supposed to hate the Cavs, but I just can’t hate Delonte West.

Part of me wants to trade Andray because I don’t think he’ll ever reach his potential here, but I also know as soon as he’s traded he’ll put everything together and burn us. I was simultaneously relieved and sadded when he wasn’t traded yesterday.

Part of me still misses Jared Jeffries.

I’ll be a Taser fan until the day he retires. Sure, he gets by doing a lot of the same things that Ruffin did (whom I wasn’t enamored with, but I respected) but I just enjoy McGuire’s game.

I always loved Googs way more than I should have

Maybe it was because I got his ’92 Fleer Ultra rookie card back when Fleer Ultra was a big deal. (And by “big deal” I mean for about 2 months the cards were skyrocketing in value – then everyone realized that Fleer had produced a freaking crapload of its “premium” cards, and so all those Shaq rookie cards that people had been stockpiling lost half their value…. Wait, where am I going with this?)

I will really hate to see NY go if it happens. I want him to get one more year to break out, but now the odds of that happening with Foye and Miller being here are not good. I’m afraid he may not be in our plans anymore.

Arenas is still my favorite NBA player of all time. I’ve never gotten so excited watching a player play the game of basketball. His coming out party in 2006-2007 was a sight to behold.

I am suspicious of Wes Unseld Jr.

I despise Vinny Cerrato. (Also, I think Danny Boy is pathetic, but I don’t hate him.)

I give almost everyone on the Wizards the benefit of the doubt, and think that eventually they will come around, or reach their potential, or find their niche, etc.

That said, Jared Jeffries, Jarvis Hayes and Kwame Brown are not ever welcome on a team I root for.

I like all you BF people, even (and maybe especially) the cantankerous ones.

Getting buckets since 2003.

i think....

nick young and andray blatche would make better harlem globetrotters than nba players

chenier sleeps with a washington bullets body pillow each and every night

one day you will be able to find steve buckantz in a retirement center watching old wizard games on mute and dubbing over his old broadcast. the other patients will complain and the nurses though patient will eventually have to come in and sedate him.
buckantz yells “dagger” repeatedly until he fades out.

Gilbert will come back and be better than he was. by becoming a better leader and passer and defender, realizing through his injurys that his short time in the nba should not be taken for granted

that WE WILL DELIVER A CHAMPIONSHIP TO Mr. Abe Pollin before he passes on to the dream team in the sky

I like this

I’ll have more, of course, but just a few:

-I defend everything Brendan Haywood, even if it’s undeserved
-I give Andray Blatche the benefit of the doubt way too much
-I sometimes get too caught up in numbers while ignoring context (something I’m constantly trying to work on)
-I’m probably more bullish on Flip Saunders that necessary
-Even with all the reasons that say I shouldn’t, because he’s a project that still has a ways to go to know how to play, I’m in love with JaVale McGee

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

Here's mine

I’m a big fan of Andray.
I also like Nick Young.
I’m offended when folks talk about the 30 years of being awful. Hey during the ‘80s, we were mediocre not awful. Big difference.
I hated the Michael Jordan era. I felt like my team had been hijacked by an outsider who viewed the team as his personal toy.
I like Abe Pollin and get defensive when people attack him.
Guys I’ve liked: Ricky Sobers, Michael Adams, Mark Alarie, John Williams, Michael Adams (round 2), Googs, Aaron Williams, Jeff Malone, Ledell Eackles, Georghe but not Manute, Tim Legler, Steve Blake, Darell Walker, Juwann for his first 2 seasons, and of course Gilbert Arenas.
I think trading Rasheed for Rod Strickland was a good move.
I think trading Webber for Mitch Richmond was not a good move. The lockout was coming. Why the hurry?
After the Juwann Howard to Miami signing, I sympathize with Wes Unseld’s comment, “I just offered a guy 78 million dollars guaranteed and was told that it was an insult”.

Mine

So what……………… I love homers on the TV – Dagger !!!
I was up on Blatche, until last year, now I’m down.
I still love Nick Young – and will defend anything and everything he does
Stats? Stats? We don’t need no stinking stats!
Hated trading Gugliotta
I like the Foye/Miller trade.
Can’t understand why the Bullets/Wizards only get into the Draft Lottery during a poor draft years.
When is it the Wizards turn to draft a LeBron James, Dwight Howard, Tim Duncan or Yao Ming

Loved John Williams, Manute (after his accident), Muresan, Ruland and Mahorn (the bash brothers), Charles Jones (the secret weapon), Phil Chenier’s jumper, Elvin Hayes’ turn around, Rod Strickland’s drives, and Wes Unseld’s elbows.

Will I remember how to celebrate a Championship?

I like this idea; There are more but...

I like Nick Young as a person, and think he isn’t serious enough to help us as a player

I have an irrational loyalty to oddball Bullets roleplayers who seem to try hard but are somewhat talent/athleticism deprived (see Popeye Jones, Ruffin, Songaila, Booth and heck even BoB McCan)

My all time favorite Bullets player might actually be Popeye Jones and I am seriously considering getting a jersey made to honor him ;p (just don’t tell my Elvin Hayes throwback that I am cheating on it ..)

I won’t wear a Wizards jersey because I still don’t want to support the name change

I secretly enjoy being the fan of a long suffering franchise and think there may be more to that passion than spoiled fans whose teams have actually (gasp) won something during their lifetime

I am probably too high on Ernie Grunfeld for turning Michael Jordan era cast offs into Antawn and Kwame into Caron despite his history of giving out ridiculous contracts and drafting poorly

I think Javale is a 4 and may be cursed by being shoe horned into being a 5 and would then become the 50th out of 51 (random numbers I know) picks to underachieve with a role player like Taser as the only exception.

I like the Foye/Miller Trade and don’t think Ernie could have done much better

I think that NBA GMs are rarely aggressive enough and tend to be too conservative out of a fear of failure and I am pretty sure that Ernie’s second move this off season won’t be nearly what we need to have a good front court

by Manimal Smith on Jun 25, 2009 3:35 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

O and also

I HATED the MJ era and I am proud of Abe for using him for publicity and then kicking him out the door (I remember reading about how Abe was the first person to ever really stand up to MJ – can’t remember who wrote the story)

I was secretly more excited about Courtney Alexander than Rip

Jamison's not showy and he's looking out for his knees

I don’t blame him. He can still get up when he feels like it. I’m surprised no one makes the George Gervin comparisons, considering his arsenal of floaters and one handers

I miss

Popeye Jones, Terry Davis, and Michael Ruffin. Every team needs the lunch pale guys.

- I really like
Javaris Crittendon. I think he can develop into a solid PG for years to come. He’s got good size, speed, and he looks to pass first. Now he needs a jumper
- I think they should play Critt, Arenas, Foye, Young, Blache, and McGee together for stretches and just run the other team out of the gym.
- I think Blache and Young need AD’s work ethic.
- I hung onto my hopes for Kwame Brown WAY too long.
- I hate when power forwards who camp out at the top of the key while their team gets killed on the boards.
- I hated Jerry Stackhouse. I am a friend of Jerome WIlliams, and heard plenty of stories about the guy being a d**k.
- I am happy with Flip Saunders, but would’ve rather had Avery Johnson to instill a commitment to defense in this team. Plus I like hearing him talk.
- I hated that Abe Pollin stuck with Wes Unseld all those years (as coach and GM), but admire the hell out of his loyalty to former players AND the city.
- I hope the Wizards knock the Cavs out of the playoffs next year, and Gilbert looks at Lebron while knocking down the winning free throws.

by CJHutch on Jun 25, 2009 8:22 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

whoops

- I think they should play Critt, Arenas, Foye, Young, Blache, and McGee together for stretches and just run the other team out of the gym.

I goofed. 6 players. Take out Gil. (I would’ve said Foye but then MR and Jheiser3 would’ve jumped all over my case.) JK

by CJHutch on Jun 25, 2009 8:27 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not at all

I think having those 6 players on the court at the same time would create SERIOUS matchup problems for any opposing team.

Good lord biases, Where do I start

I have a visceral dislike for all Blue Devils and Tar Heels (Terrapins fan)
I backed Etan Thomas over Brendan Haywood for many years
I also believed in Kwame Brown for far too long
I believe that George Mason’s win over Connecticut is the greatest night in Verizon Center history and could only be topped by the Wizards clinching the title at home
I like and miss the Heckler
I liked Michael Jordan being part of the Wizards until the moment he set foot on the basketball floor (and yet I was glad to see him play live)
I think seeing Allan Iverson play live while he was still one of the elite players in the league is one of the greatest privileges I’ve ever had as a basketball fan
I wished the Wizards traded Antawn Jamison when he was expiring for Kenyon Martin OR that the Wizards made a move to get Ron Artest after they went to the second round in 2005
I think the 2005 is the greatest year I’ve ever had as a sports fan
I believe David Falk is from the same circle of Hades that Scott Boras resides
I wish that I knew or was “Worldwide Wes”
I believe JaVale McGee is the child who can lead us!
I believed that Nikoloz Tsikitshvili would be a star
I onced drafted Zeljko Rebraca in a fantasy NBA draft
I believe that Dan Snyder and Vinny Cerrato need to be dumped into the Anacostia River
I believe Jason Campbell is good enough
I believe that Chris Samuels is the most overrated NFL player in the game today

And there are tons more but I couldn’t possibly state them all

Too good to keep my mouth shut

Here we go:

-I have read this site a lot over the past couple years but rarely take the time to comment. This post brought it out of me.
-I have soured on Nick Young and Andray Blatche, although I am convinced that when we finally forget about Dray, he will become the man that we’ve all been hoping he’d be.
-I have what might be an irrational love for Dominic McGuire. Not sure what it is about the guy and the kind of ball that he plays, but I really enjoy having him on our team.
-I believe in Javale McGee. Truly. We cannot let this one go. Let’s hope that our folks figure out how to properly develop him into what we all dream he could become.
-For a long time I liked neither Brenda or The Poet. I thought their antics were childish and neither of them deserved the starting spot. Now I’ve grown to love Brendan, dearly, and while I appreciate the person that is Etan Thomas, I am happy to see him leave the team.
-I always liked D-Song, despite his contract. I was saddened when I heard the White Knight had been traded.
-I think I like the Miller/Foye trade, but I don’t love it.
-I am very curious to hear how we will balance our roster.
-I love Buck and Phil.
-I never liked sports growing up, then one day about four years ago I discovered that I had actually loved sports the whole time, I just didn’t know it. I have been obsessed with the Wiz (and other DC teams) ever since. Unfortunately, as a result, I don’t share many of your fond(?) memories from times past.
-The Vinny and Danny show disgusts me. I despise both of those men, if you could even call them men.

by T.Really on Jun 25, 2009 1:21 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I love Nick Young. That was the thing I was most sad about this trade. I would have preferred moving blatche for big help then the seemingly inevitable Nick Young trade. For all his goofiness, he is a natural scoring. And he was improving on defense. I even detected some… fiestness? Last bobcat game? Anyhow, I love love love Nick Young. And BTH. Suck it, Poet.

Biases

- I’m a sucker for women who laugh at my jokes and make me laugh.
- I think only players who excel on defense have the right to speak up and be heard. Offense-only players who worry about “touches” need to shut the heck up.
- That goes for coaches, too. Yes, I’m talking to you, Edward Jordan.
- I’m more interested in how well a players defends than how well he scores.
- I root for the underdog, be it Orlando in the Finals or Kwame, Blatche, Brendan, or whomever is NOT the flavor of the month with the likes of Wilbon and the masses.
- I like stats, especially +/-.
- I’m impatient with fans who are impatient, who demand that a certain player must either have a breakout year in his 2nd/3rd/4th/whatever year or be shipped out of town just because those fans have run out of patience.
- I think most Wizards fans (present company excluded) are a bunch of idiots in this regard: Whenever a player gets injured, the fans turn against him (see, e.g., Stackhouse, Kwame, Muresan, Gilbert, etc.).

Mine

-I think far too highly of Nick Young
-I held out a glimmer of hope that Pecherov would be a decent player
-I like Mike Miller’s scoring, but I hate that he can’t guard shooting guards
-I think that Andray Blatche is a very legitimate backup power forward, and that he gets far too much hate.
-I love Javaris Crittenton at the 2, hate him at the 1

My name is Godwuzawiz

- I would not be a fan if not for the Michael Jordan era. I had strayed from the bullets flock then I came back so I could watch MJ play and I ended up getting hooked (thanks in part to a very good friend).
- I cheered when Jordan was run out of town, but inside I was kinda sad.
- I think that AD should have been hired as player/coach … it’s insane I know.
- I love foreign 7 footers (especially if they are african and try to shoot the three).
- I loved Legler on the team … I HATE him on TV.
- I still HATE it when people say SongaLIA instead of SongaILA
- I have given up on Nick Young.
- I still have hope for Blatche. I love his little flip shots around the rim.
- I hope that McGuire learns to shoot, but I will still love him when he doesn’t.
- I have high hopes for this team.
- So long, Party John Ramos.

i live in toronto

i wish we still had songalia
