Next Target: Sheed?

I feel like the trade that went down on tuesday night has left many of us feeling like there has gotta be another move

Star-divide

What about bring Sheed back to DC?

I've seen a couple guys mention his name, and I think i'd be a good move from the situation we're in now.

He is not the player he was a couple of years ago when Detroit was on top of the east, but I think he is a competitive vet who would bring a unique presence to our team both on and off the floor. Would our technical count for the season possibly double? Probably, but I think the upside in bringing him in would certainly out-weigh some fines.

What Sheed Gives us that we don't already have:

A true, low-post threat who can get the ball out of a half court set and go to work. He can also give us one of the most Dynamic line-ups in the league in terms of spreading the floor and low-post/ perimeter offense. Sheed can still step outside so he can help us there from a match-up perspective.

He gives us some attitude in the front-court. I feel like his fire and entensity really ignited that pistons team that won it all and again, he's not the same player he was then, but the guy still plays with that passion that we severly lack from our 4 guys in the post. I've seen flashes from JaVale and BWood, but Blatche might as well be in cardiac arrest. The guy is a lost cause.

How much would he cost?

I believe it was reported earlier in the off-season that Wallace would retire unless he got a contract that was worth 8-10 mill annually. Good luck with that bro. I think when he see's the kinds of offers that the upper-tier free agents are getting this offseason ( Odom, Boozer, etc), he'll bring his price down. Especially if he feels like the team could compete for a ring. Try and snag him for the MLE, if not that then a two year deal with the second year being the team option.

If we are seriouslly "gunning for it all" this year and the Minnisotta trade wasn't all about dumping salaries (which I think it was), then we should take the next step and bring a guy like this in. Or we Could just lock up Carlos Boozer instead of hoping to snag one of the 2010 crop. He'd be an upgrade too.

This represents the view of the user who wrote the FanPost, and not the entire Bullets Forever community. We're a place of many opinions, not just one.

I’d welcome Rasheed back in a heart beat for the MLE but I’m not sure if he would sign for that.Wes should have never dealt him for Rod Strickland in the first place.

Wes should not have dealt Rasheed for Rod Strickland.

I say no

Yes, Sheed is a major low post threat. The only problem is getting him to actually go to the low post and stop jacking up jumpers all day.

It Will Never Happen

It makes too much sense from a basketball standpoint. Alas, Flip and Sheed will not be reuniting. They mix like gasoline and a Frankenstein era torch.

McDyess is a legit option, not Sheed

by Jheiser3 on Jun 24, 2009 9:30 AM EDT reply actions

Mcdyess can be backup at pf still and we could move Blatche to backup C and give Mcgee more time to devolope

we need to move Deshawn + Mike James + 32nd for Marcus Camby i would give them our 2011 1st to make it happen ….. try to go all in for a Championship

Gilbert…. Foyle ….Critt
Miller…….Young…
Caron……Dmac….
Antwan….Blatche..Mcdyess
Wood….. Camby…Mcgee

adding Camby and Mcdyess for one year would help out our big learn Defense

Camby

was traded one year ago for just the 2nd round pick. Now he’s worth a hig 2 and a future 1? No. The 2011 pick is a terrible idea. This deal reminds of of the Ike Austin deal.

We can put James and filler together for a decent back-up C. No need to throw in 32 or anything else.

by Jheiser3 on Jun 24, 2009 11:00 AM EDT up reply actions

yeah but this deal would free us of Deshawn contract and even our roster out plus Camby is a great defensive game changer he could be very good for Mcgee to learn from and he is a 10 and 10 guys still

by eltacoman on Jun 24, 2009 11:05 AM EDT up reply actions

DS

Its unlikely anyone will take DeShawn until he can pass a physical. Teams aren’t going to take the 8Mil guaranteed to him over the next 2 years without knowing if he will get on the court for them. he can’t he play right now, just rehab with trainers. he is ours until he can play.

I like Camby, but you don’t mortgage the future for one year of him.

I think you meant

Foye instead of Foyle

As much as I’d like to see Adonal Foyle running the point with the second unit… haha

No Wilcox? Seems like a decent and cheap fit.

by MR on Jun 24, 2009 11:38 AM EDT up reply actions

I've never liked his game

Okay rebounder, but he shoots too much for a guy with his middling efficiency and doesn’t play defense. Plus, I think we need a vet to help mentor Blatche and McGee.

by Mike Prada on Jun 24, 2009 11:42 AM EDT up reply actions

I think Collison is the perfect fit

If the Wiz weren’t cheap (which they are)

I would trade NY and Mike James for Collison

and try and sign Gortat or Zaza for the MLE

In that dream world you would have

Arenas/Foye/Crittendon
Miller/Foye/Stevenson
Butler/Miller/McGuire
Jamison/Collison/Blatche
Haywood/Gortat/McGee

And then use the 32 for someone beefy to take some fouls.

Its always Roger Mason (Jr.) time!

Excellent

That would be great for us. I really hope we could do something like that. Or at the very least, sign Gortat.

?

Wouldn’t Gortat want playing time? Possibly even a starting job? I think the Collison deal is perfect but tough to give what OKC wants.

by Jheiser3 on Jun 24, 2009 2:41 PM EDT up reply actions

I Thought

He only wanted more money. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind starting, but if we were to pay him the MLE to back up Brendan and play 20 MPG, I thought he would take that.

His main issue in Orlando is that he can’t get time. Most free agents move not just for money but to be a bigger part of the team. There is no way he signs with a team to play 20 minutes a night.

by Jheiser3 on Jun 24, 2009 3:02 PM EDT up reply actions

But Haywood logs a fraction of the time

of other starting NBA centers. So it might be the best destination….

by Sean Fagan on Jun 24, 2009 3:04 PM EDT up reply actions

there will be better opportunities for him and lots more playing time from other teams. He could also play the 4 to a shooting 5 for some teams. I could see Detroit spending more than the MLE and they have the minutes to offer too.

by Jheiser3 on Jun 24, 2009 3:07 PM EDT up reply actions

I thought

that Detroit’s two top targets were Gordon and Boozer?

I think you have a good point, but outside of Detroit, GS, Memphis, and OKC, everyone else has invested in a center. And Memphis wants Thabeet and I doubt Sam Presti wants to sink a ton of money into Gortat.

Its always Roger Mason (Jr.) time!

by Sean Fagan on Jun 24, 2009 3:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Charlie Villanueva

Why pay Boozer 16 or 17M when he can’t stay healthy? I think Paul Mlisap is the more likely target.

I know what convention wisdom is saying about Detroit. It could very well be true. I think Dumars is going to do more with that money than just Gordon and Boozer. Gortat is right up his alley. Physical, can defend the rim and most importantly he can grow with Stuckey.

I honestly don’t see a great fit for Gordon and Detroit. He has to find a home for Hamilton and that extension too.

I think Dumars is more likely to go after 3 younger players for the same money as paying Gordon and Boozer. Especially if he doesn’t want to jump back into the playoffs and be back to revamping his roster in 3 or 4 years. Boozer is not worth the kind of money they are talking. Dumars is the guy who won with a collection of very good players who became all stars, not the superstar model.

Gortat, Ariza, Milsap, Varajeo, Birdman, Marvin Williams, Kleiza, Charlie Villanueva, David Lee, this includes RFA’s that are available to Detroit because teams won’t want to match what they can pay. They can get 3 for the same price or less than what Gordon and Boozer or Boozer-Turkoglu want.

I'm not sure

I would think that Gortat’s agent would know better than to promise him a starting job. But then again, big men always get overpaid.

Hollinger made an interesting point in his evaluation of Euros in that PF’s are the commodity that is most replaceable in the NBA. There is usually a Jerome James out there to take up some room and grab some boards.

Not

Not necessarily starting but getting a guarantee from the team to get more than 20 minutes. He wants to be a factor. He will give more attention to whoever has the most minutes to offer since the money will likely be the same regardless (MLE).

OTOH

Gortat is used to going to the Playoffs….

You think that for the same money (MLE), Gortat will want to play for GS, Memphis, or OKC?

MG

he didn’t even play last year. So this was his first experience in the playoffs. Not sure how that equates to being used to the experience. But if that’s a factor then I have to imagine Dallas would be a nice place for him to land. Golden State (SF) is enticing to people for a lot of reasons.

Camby

is still not bad (for a back-up) – Last year he averaged a double-double (10 and 11) along with 2 blocks and 2 assists in 31 minutes a game…

I’d be happy with him playing 20 minutes a game and giving the Wizards 6 points, 7 reebounds and a block every night as a reserve.

His 2009-10 Salary is $7,650,000 and expires….

I think a trade of Javaris Crittenton and Mike James might get it done. I know a trade with James and Nick Young would work for the Clippers – I just don’t know if I’d want to give up that much.

Plus

ShamSports has Camby making 9.6, not the 7.6 that HoopsHype shows.

Clips have Gordon eating 35 minutes per game, so NY would be a bit redundant or less valuable to them. If only we could get them to take DeShawn…

Is Sham Considered More Accurate?

Where does Sham and HoopsHype get their numbers from, anyway? Couldn’t we establish our own salary DB?

I'd assume from a zillion articles

This summer, I’ll share my spreadsheet of the Wizards salaries. I’ve just been too lazy to permanently link it.

(Plus, it’s not updated with the Miller/Foye trade).

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

Javaris + Mike James + #32?

Camby is really a perfect fit for what we need and he doesn’t add salary complications.

The clippers need to trade one of their top 3 big men because they need room for Blake Griffin (and Deandre Jordan) and they want to maintain salary flexibility. This gives them the same salary flexibility and some young talent.

I hope that Ernie is at least thinking along these lines instead of hoping against hope that we can develop Javaris using 5min/game.

SHeed for the MLE

<a href="http://" >LINK

• The Cavs are not done. They still are going to be looking for a wing defender (or two) and I think also a stretch power forward, aka a player who can go out to the 3-point line. This is why I believe they will still consider signing Rasheed Wallace with their mid-level exception

Let McGee be our High energy low post defender and bring this guy in to help out on the block. Do it.

Joe Dirt

what about Joe Smith? He seems like a pretty good mentor. Does the dirty work, and has a very good mid jumper.

Still like Wilcox if you could get him to focus on rebounding. Pachulia abuses us quite a bit, wouldn’t mind having that shoe on the other foot. Still say May and Pops deserve a look.
