EJ's Bottom Line

I’m playing this close to the vest, guys. Don’t expect me to reveal my hand until Draft Night.

I’m curious to know why EJ felt compelled to have a PC in the first place. Maybe he didn’t want talk of the team trying to get every star player from ‘98-’04 to get blown out of proportion.

Standard

I think its pretty standard during the run up to the draft. Its not very informational because he won’t say what they are going to do, but it gives local outlets something to write about. This also comes as they finish all the pre-draft workouts.

My problem with keeping it this close to the vest is that it doesn’t seem as though teams who want the pick know where they stand or what it would take to get the pick. That makes it harder to include a 3rd team.

The impression I got

was that he has an idea of what to do if they trade a pick, and an idea of what to do if they keep it. My two problems with this are (1) if he’d at least give a hint at some details, he may get another GM to bite, and (2) with this team, I’d prefer plans to ideas.

EG

The most important quote – when asked about shedding salary to get under the Tax:

“That’s not the case. We’ll do what we need to do to put the best possible product out there. Obviously we’re going to try to be responsible and do things in a responsible fashion. At the same time, we had opportunities to give away players last Trading Deadline, and cut payroll drastically – and we did not do that because we feel it’s important to put a very good product out there and put a very competitive team out there. And we’re going to do that.”

This presser

seems like it was intended to announce a trade. But after it was scheduled the trade was put on hold for a few hours. Why else would there be a press conference for nothing?
