Multiple sources have confirmed that the Wizards engaged in conversations with the Phoenix Suns about acquiring all-star forward Amare Stoudemire last month, but the talks stalled when the Suns demanded Butler. Another league source added that Golden State and Portland have also attempted to land Butler, but Grunfeld hasn't budged.
Michael Lee. If I could be sure that Amare was healthy and was re-signing after next year, I'd probably give up Butler for him.

And move AJ to small forward?
MAYBE I would do this, but I’m not sure we get better. Definitely not defensively, and probably only marginally offensively. Amare is a great down low option, but I would feel much better keeping Butler at SF and somehow moving AJ off the team.
Getting buckets since 2003.

In a vaccum, I think Amare is better than Butler
Once you consider the context of both teams, it becomes much closer. I guess it depends what else comes back.
One could also move Jamison for a shooting guard under this scenario. Jamison for Rip? We then trot out the following:
Arenas
Rip
McGuire
Amare
Haywood
With Critt, Young, our fifth pick, Blatche, Songaila, McGee, a vet backup 3 and a vet backup 5 on our bench.
Hmm…is that team better? I’m not sure, it’s a tough call

Good for Ernie
Butler is the heart and soul of this team, and I just don’t see Amare galvanizing the troops..I’d offer up Jamison and the #5 pick though…

The More I Study This
The more I think Amare is overrated. His game looks great when running the fast-paced, 7 seconds or less offense. But slow him down into a half-court game, and I think his weaknesses are exposed, especially on defense. This past season he actually had a negative impact on the Suns while he was on the floor. Thanks but no thanks. We should keep Butler.

Yes
I only want Amare if we don’t give up Antwan or Caron. That changes thing to much and doesn’t make the team better. Now Nick Young and the 5 pick and expiring contract… I think so.

CBSSportsline's Ken Berger elaborates on the Amare talk
Two people familiar with the talks confirmed that Washington discussed swapping the No. 5 and No. 14 picks with Phoenix in a trade that would’ve sent Amare Stoudemire to the Wizards. Phoenix also would’ve gotten one of the Wizards’ young guards — either Nick Young or Javaris Crittenton. But Washington walked away when the Suns asked for Caron Butler.
Link. Considering Amare’s desire to leave Phoenix after the season, I can’t believe they really expect the Wizards to deal Caron Butler to them. Again, in a vacuum, Caron<Amare, but all things considered, the Suns aren’t going to get a player that good. Ernie should be holding out on this.

from Michel Lee .
‘’Butler said he hasn’t taken a break since the season ended, and visited former teammates Dwyane Wade and Kobe Bryant during the playoffs. His goal is to lose about 10 pounds between now and training camp, to get down to 210’’.
“It’s going to be the best season of my career and I hope that it’s in a Wizards uniform,” Butler said.
And if Butler had a choice for the fifth pick? “If Stephen Curry is there, you saw what he did at the workout, you saw what he did this season. I think besides Blake Griffin, he’s probably one of the two or three best players in college basketball. It’s kind of simple, I think.”
i really dont want to see Caron leave … im also thinking that we should just draft Curry or Harden if he is still there …. if anything we could still look to make trades at the deadline if our team cant get it done by then as its constructed …we could easily just blow it up with Etan Mike having to most Value at the deadline and getting another look at our young guys too
I say lets stay put till the deadline … if we are still a under 500. team then we might need to move on … but if where one of the top 3 teams or best of the east we stay put

I Should Point Out
If Stephen Curry is there, you saw what he did at the workout, you saw what he did this season.
Actually, I did not see what he did this past season. Was he really good? Davidson got sent to the NIT and bounced in the second round by Patty Mills and St. Mary’s. Was Curry not as good as he was the season before? You guys tell me. I was surprised to not see him in the Tournament this year.

His team wasn't as good
They lost their starting point guard, so Curry was playing on the ball more rather than off it. It’s not Curry’s fault that his team lost a lot of talent.
