The Wizards are said to have an offer for Manu Ginobili on the table, but the details are not known. A deal that makes a lot of sense for both sides is a swap that consists of Mike James, Etan Thomas, the fifth pick in this year's draft, and Nick Young for Ginobili and Fabricio Oberto. Nick Young would provide the Spurs with the promising young shooting guard they tried to acquire in J.R. Smith and with the fifth pick they could go a number of different ways. Jordan Hill or DeMar DeRozan would look awfully nice in a Spurs' uniform.
All rumor, but we don't seem to give up too much to get Ginobli. As much as I love Nick Young, this is appealing, in hopes that Ginobli's injury isn't a reoccurring thing.

Yea it does seem pricey
But that is probably what its going to take to get a veteran impact player like Ginobili. Just expiring contracts and #5 most likely aren’t going to be enough – it will take one of our young prospects as well.
If we could really get Ginobili for that package, and San Antonio balks at taking Critt or Andray instead of Young, I would have to go through with it. I’d be scared of Young exploding in his third year, or a Ginobili injury, but it would be worth it. Ginobili is a special player.

rod strickland was also thought of as a special player.
While Manu is a huuuge improvement over what we have I dont view him as being head and shoulders over some of the players we could trade for using only our 1st + expiring deals.
I agree that the deal for Ginobili shouldn't be ranked #1
in terms of deals that could possibly be on the table, now or in the days leading up to the draft. Things could change, teams’ interests could change. Ernie will hold out for the best possible deal.
If there’s a deal on the table that doesn’t include us trading Nick Young, I expect that trade to be made before one that forces us to move him. Dallas is probably a better trade partner. They are more desperate than the Spurs in terms of their roster stability. They would probably accept Andray Blatche instead of Nick Young because of Brandon Bass’ FA situation.

In a heartbeat
Ginobli and a veteran big man for out expirings, #5, and Nick Young? I don’t see the Wizards finding a better deal anywhere. Young has the potential to be good, but not better than Ginobli.
Move would be a disaster. Last year (an injured) Manu averaged 15 ppg in 27 minutes, Nick young averaged 11 ppg in 22 minutes. Manu’s numbers are only going to go down, while NYs continue to (modestly) increase.
Manu will not only be a 32 year old 7 year vet going into next year. He will be a 32 year old 7 year vet with pre-existing injuries, that has played another season and a half worth of playoff games (102) AND a long international career.
I think the only way that SA gives up on him is if they think the injury situation is overwhelming. In which case we don’t really want him unless it’s a bargain.

That deal would make sense for San Antonio
Their organization seems very adept at evaluating talent. They also seem extremely skilled at anticipating talent and improvement. Their scouting combined with one of the best player development programs in the league would make a great new home for Nick Young. I’d almost go as far as to say that Nick Young would probably have a better career if it were in San Antonio than in Washington. If the Spurs are interested in him, it probably means something. It is obvious Young is talented, but if we keep him, we need to really invest in harnessing his talent.

No way
Two injury-prone players who are over 30 for two expirers, a pick that could be used to draft someone who could start for us for ten years, and a shooting guard who could conceivably start for us as soon as next year? Not a chance. I would resign as a Wizards fan if we did this.
Too injury prone.
PASS.
