Looks like assistants Phil Hubbard and Randy Ayers will be out too....according to Wizards Insider.

No big surprise here as most any coach would want their own staff ... except ... Wes Unseld, Jr. will be staying on board.

The Unselds are part of Abe Pollin's family ... and it just wouldn't be a franchise without a dose of nepotism.

Speaking of ... Flip might hire his son.

The Only One I'm Shedding Tears Over

Is Dave Hopla. A team could always use a guy like him to help with shooting.

The Wizards Obviously Don't Need to Shoot Well

Shooting is overrated, as nobody likes to say.

I mean, players just learn that on their own

Obviously, it’s just a coincidence that even the most historically bad free throw shooters on the team became somewhere between respectable and good under Hopla.

This is beyond stupid. He was obviously doing a good job, and it’s not like he’d interfere with Saunders on some kind of ideological level.

Boo

When I get home, I’m going to swish a free throw in my driveway in honor of Hopla. (It might take all night.)

Of course we let Hopla go.

I swear 50% of the Les Boulez curse is self-inflicted.

So we let go of a coach who had only one job but did it very well, and kept the other coach who as far as I can tell has only one job (out-of-bounds plays) and must be one of the worst in the NBA. I hope Saunders demotes him to office assistant.

Getting buckets since 2003.

I’m glad to see Ayers go, this defensive “ace” certainly didn’t understand leaving open threes in the corner was a bad thing.

No, No, No.

I’ve been huge on Hopla for awhile – mostly since I read Gil’s blog post where he attributes most of his shooting improvements to Hopla.

This is some ßü¬¬$H!†.

Gah.

The only coach on our staff who could coach! Well, at least coach shooting!

The Washington Wizards: providing career scoring nights for unknown opposing bench players since 2004.
