Agent confident Rubio to stay in draft
I guess that settles it. I'm going to be so mad if we get the #3 pick.

Question
Around here it seems to be the consensus that Ricky Rubio is a clear #2 pick but I don’t read tons of draft speculation anywhere else. Is it a widespread view that Rubio is the obvious second pick?

All the Mock Drafts show Blake Griffin as #1 and Rubio as #2
Including the four I watch the most:
DraftExpress , Hoopsworld , ESPN , RealGM , etc…
Any of the Mock draft boards that don’t have Rubio listed as #2, they don’t have him listed at all…. which means they’re not updated frequently…

(Some of us think it might be Rubio #1, Griffin #2)

Um..........
A team that has a lot of big front line guys, but is lacking in a true Playmaker… A team that doesn’t need rebounding or inside scoring…. A team that could move their existing PG to his natural position of Shooting Guard……
Perhaps a team like the LA Clippers?
I know what most of you are going to say – never draft for position – always draft the best available player…. and Griffin is the best available player…. But the Clippers already have Chris Kaman, Marcus Camby, and Zach Randolph (Plus talented Rookie DeAndre Jordan languishing on the bench).. To draft Rubio wouldn’t be too hard a choice.
Bullets Forever - where "Dagger ! " happens......
Add to that
That Dunleavy loves him some Euro talent. He took that young Russian kid at # 8 I think. He’s my odds-on favorite to take Pesh off our hands in a deal for Camby. If there was a GM that would take Rubio #1 its Mike Dunleavy.
(Some of us think Rubio might be Griffin's equal, talent-wise)
Also Tom Ziller at Sactown Royalty gives some evidence that the Kings might also prefer Rubio to Griffin.

Very good news actually
Now the Wizards have a 38.7% chance of getting a really good player at either #1 or #2….
Much better odds than 19.9% for #1 only….
People, this is NOT another Juan Carlos Navarro…. This kid is the real deal. Just about everyone agrees that Rubio will eventually be a Star in the NBA. And by everyone, I mean NBA Scouts, GM’s and other team insiders…. not fans or bloggers…

Agree...
If the Wizards wind up with the 2 pick, selecting Rubio makes good sense. It also frees up either Nick Young or Javaris Crittenten (or both) to be dealt with Etan Thomas’s contract and perhaps our # 2 pick to a team with guard holes and an available banger.
While I have a feeling that getting Griffin would more likely lead to a ring, deep inside part of me hopes for Rubio. It would just be so much fun.
Rubio's not exactly a project, too
Yeah, he’ll have to adjust to the NBA game and work on his jumper, but I could still see him averaging 14 points and 8 assists in his rookie year. He’s as talented as Rose and Westbrook, and they’ve been solid (well, moreso in the case of Rose than Westbrook) this year, and Rubio would most likely be better than Crittenton as a back up point guard and better than whoever we start next to Gilbert next year. Griffin might have a better first year, but I don’t see why it would be dramatically better than Rubio’s. Remember, as great as Griffin is, he’s still an inch or two too short for his position and he doesn’t have a jumper, so his first year production will most likely be closer to Beasley’s than, say, Chris Webber’s.

Ready the article.
“He’s special,” one NBA GM told ESPN.com. “There aren’t many kids you’ll find at his age with such a terrific feel for the game. He just knows how to play. When he gets out there with players 10 years older than him, he just looks like he belongs. He’ll have some adjusting to do in the NBA, but the truth is, he’s as NBA ready as most of the college kids that are coming out. He’s playing on a very big world stage.”
Not disagreeing with you about Grifffin more likely to lead to a ring, but the dude can help us now while we’re contending.

I agree with MR
Getting Rubio would be a lot of fun. Getting Griffin would necessitate some moves, most likely moving Jamison to the bench, that might be bumpy, maybe some trades, etc. Rubio, however, could be plugged into the starting backcourt (maybe not on day 1, but relatively soon), and then let the fun begin.
And at 18 years old, as fans we can enjoy or at least hope to enjoy 10-15 years of the guy running the point for the Wizards. How awesome would that be?
Interestingly, Gilbert Arenas talked about Griffin on Washington Post Live last night...
When asked about Griffin, Arenas said that the Wizards need to “get bigger”…. and then talked about possibly moving Jamison to the 3, and Caron to the 2…. and put Griffin at the 4. That would definately allow the Wizards to play bigger…
He also said that Griffin would be a perfect fit in a Pick-and-Roll offense (Like Flip Saunders employs) because of his unbelievable athleticism and size.

I just don't know
If Jamison can play the 3 and Butler can play the two. If they can, it would be a solid lineup.
spurts
They can do it in spurts but defensively thats a bad situation for AJ.
They’ve gotten bigger at PG with Crittendon, bigger at SG when McGuire or NY is there. Songalia isn’t getting any bigger.
True
I just don’t know if they can use that as a starting lineup. It would be intriguing to see at least once or twice a game, though.
I could easily see us closing with that line up
At the same time, I don’t think it’s necessary that we shift everyone down in order to get big. With Haywood back and McGuire at shooting guard (and more importantly Songaila out of the starting five), our rebounding is somewhere between decent and good already, and we lose speed and quickness when we play Caron at shooting guard and Jamison at small forward. Even though we’ve been extremely slow-paced the last two years, with Arenas running the point, I can’t imagine us playing a really grind-it-out style next year, which is what big line ups are most well-suited for.

why do i get this rising feeling that we'll end up with the #1 pick?
False hope. I feel like we’re entitled to it.
Why do I get the uncertain feeling that i have no idea.

Maybe NY?
Maybe some GM and/or coach really believes that great teams require great point guards. I wonder whether D’Antoni, for example, if NY got the first pick, wouldn’t push Walsh to pick Rubio because Rubio could really make D’Antoni’s system go. Griffin isn’t a three point shooter, so maybe D’Antoni wouldn’t think Griffin was a good fit for D’Antoni’s system.
That's possible
Still, D’Antoni’s also fond of high-flying big men who can race up and down the court. I think he could go either way.

It took me five times on the lottery
before the Wizards got the number one pick. They only got a top 3 pick one other time.

espn's draft machine
I tried playing the draft lottery with espn’s machine 25 times. Here’s the breakdown of the results:
Pick #1: 3 times (12%)
Pick #2: 12 times (48%)
Pick #3: 3 times (12%)
Pick #4: 4 times (16%)
Pick #5: 3 times (12%)
So there you go. The Wizards will pick 2nd and draft Rubio.

If Sacto picks #1 and we pick #2
There’s a chance they take Rubio and Blake falls to 2.
They’ve spent their last couple first round picks on bigs and the only pgs on their team right now are Beno and Bobby Jackson. Plus, we all know how much they love their white/euro players (Vlade, Peja, Brad Miller, Hawes, half of Doug Christie and Mike Bibby)…
Suppose the Wizards do end up with Rubio
If he is as good as he has shown, then does he play point and Gilbert play 2 (which I would prefer).

bench
He begins by coming off the bench, same way he did for the Spanish national team. He, Songalia, Nick and whoever we bring in as a back up C would be a nice 2nd unit.
IF someday he warrants starting consideration we’ll figure that out then.
