Around SBN: Chan Sung Jung Wins Thriller Over Dustin Poirier

And THAT is Why This Team Hasn't Been Blown Up Yet

Sure it's only one game, but I think the nation (especially Charles Barkley) just got an idea of what this team can do when all the key pieces are together.  Maybe tonight's win cost us a few ping-pong balls, but at this point, I don't really care.  This roster just proved that they can beat the best team in the NBA without their upcoming lottery pick.  That has to get you excited for next year.

(And no, that's not an endorsement of selling/trading this year's pick.)

err

Javale’s block was number 10, and Jamison’s dunk was number 5

Jamison's touch/game is so nice...

he doesn’t need to dunk. He’s been somewhat of an ironman during his career, so picking the right times to unleash the dunks, might prove beneficial for his longterm. He’s not foreign to dunking tho, he and Vince Carter (aka Mailman, for other reasons) were doing alley oops like it was nobody’s business back during their unc days.

Awesome

Just got home from the game, what a great night…
It’s kinda funny cuz the last couple games have been a unique viewing experience for me…I find myself wanting the games to be competitive so I can see Gil and Haywood’s progress – but still kinda wanting (or not minding) to see the Wiz lose, since winning doesn’t really do anything for us at this point…
But tonight I and every Wiz fan in the house (and their were TONS of Cavs fans) wanted to see our Zephyrs win sooooo bad…and for it to actually happen is awesome..
I do however wish I coulda caught some of the coverage on TNT, I have a feeling they were probably shocked…

TNT...

Barkley during the halftime show of the Jazz-Nuggets game conceded he was wrong about who would win the game, but still found opportunity to knock the wizards at the same time. According to Barkley Eddie Jordan should be thankful that he no longer has to coach a team like the Wizards.

Anyways, this game for me really confirmed why it’s good that Arenas and Haywood are playing for the final handful of games. It gives Grunfeld a better sense of what kind of team he has with everyone healthy, and it gives confidence to the players themselves that they can compete with the very best teams in the league. Perhaps a boost in confidence at the end of the season will make a difference in how they ready themselves for next season?

Thanks-

I was at the game so missed TNT and was wondering what Charles said. it was a fun game to go to – I would say crowd split about half and half cavs fans and wiz fans. It was the largest crowd I have seen all season from the games I have been too. I sat next to and in front of cavs fans. Luckily for me, the Wiz took the lead pretty early and those fans were quiet most of the rest of the game. A wiz fan and a cavs fan almost got into a fight and a 10 year old kid was throwing a tantrum because his beloved Cleveland was losing and crybaby couldn’t prevent it. Too funny. But I’m happiest because I have hope for next season.

Good luck to the Magic tomorrow, maybe help stopping the Crabs from gaining HCA throughout.

Thanks!

.. I’m sure Orlando will play well tomorrow after laying an egg against Toronto. We’ll see!

I hate everything

Are you kidding me, guys? Are you KIDDING me?

I leave town for a conference. No big deal, this season has been one big batch of awful. Oh, but it’s the Cavs and maybe we could be a spoiler and the game is on TNT. But no, I have to go network with people and can’t get away for the game. Not a big deal, I mean the Wizards aren’t going to win the season series against the Cavs or anything. Right? Right?

I’m sure it was a great game, maybe even the game of the year, and I’m fine with losing a couple of ping pong balls. But really, how did I just miss this. I hate everything. Not about the team, not about the site. Just everything.

I was playing poker at a pub

and had a crappy night and missed the game for that. Still great to be one of the few teams that beat the Crabaliers twice this year! I love Gilbert averaging double-digit assists. I hope he sticks to the game he is playing now because it sounds like Agent Zero is conducting the orchestra beautifully now.

I know the feeling

I missed the game too. Then I tried to catch the highlights on SportsCenter this morning, and out of all of the plays they showed of the game, there were only THREE by the Wizards (two from Arenas). There were at least five just of LeBron. Thanks a lot, ESPN.

if we can add how sick would that be
even the 3rd or 4th we could trade it for he getting nasty with 8 threes already wow

Haywood

I am just very, very impressed by the way he plays defense. Hopefully McGee is learning a few things from watching him. Great night. Even better to watch it on tv with my friend who is a Cavs fan.

Jamison's Dunk

Check out the pic of Jamisons dunk above. Anybody else notice how hard he slammed it. The balls all warped.

TNT showed the slow motion replay of AJ running down the court after the dunk

and his Mom definitely wouldn’t be happy with the language he was using. Dude was fired up last night.

Getting buckets since 2003.

Spencer Haywood showed he is the teams REAL MVP!

For decades now, the curse of Les Boulez as far as injuries creaps in almost EVERY year since the Championship days in the late 70’s. If it ain’t Chris Webber being out for a year and a half, or Hotplate Williams or George Murrasan having a careerending foot injury makeing a movie, etc. up to Larry Hugesw anual broken fingers or wrist to Caron Butler’s end of the year injuries for the past two seasons, to right now with even guys like Mike James and Stephenson that never getting hurt being hurt. We are snake bitten and will NEVER be healthy at the same time, obviously. It’s amazing to show that although the team did fine last year with no Gilbert Arenas adn at times Jamison and of course Caron Butler, who was the player on the current rsoter that is worth obviously 20 games in the win column? SPENCER HAYWOOD!!??!! We took him for granted all these years but up till this year he NEVER got hurt and obviously, in a league with hardly any true Shaq type centers anymore, anchors our middle enough that stops teams from having layup drills on us and he gets alot of throw away rebonds that withour him are second chance points for other teams. Why didn’t Labron James go to the rim 4 or 5 times like he usually does against the Wizards. Cause all of the sudden, we had a real slow footed, thick chest, legitamate 7 foot roadblock sitting on the outside of the charge ring, ready to hack a shack whoever came to the rim. With or withoutr Gilbert, you take Spencer Haywood out of the lineup, and our skinny backup centers or our one short butr stocky hurt center doesn’t scare any of the high flyers or the speed Claxton type of guards around the league. Last night, I saw the real diference in this game and the first game we lost a few nights ago on Gilberts original return…

Not I. Not a lot of smary-pants here.

Especially after last year...

We praised Haywood last year like crazy… Career highs… Look at his shooting.. I didn’t check the box score on his free throws, but they still looked real smooth!

LOVE the guy.

Hey, by the way… Where are all those losers/naysayers who were saying our team was better without Gil? They seemed to have SHUT UP. I even have a few friends who suggested such a thing, but won’t admit it.

by se7en on Apr 3, 2009 6:16 PM EDT up reply actions

In retrospect, considering how many career years we had in 07/08, we could have probably won 50+ games with Gil

Just based on win share, he usually adds about 10 a year, minus the roughly four AD gave us, and we’ve got about 50 wins. Maybe even more, actually, since having a player like Gil on your team automatically makes you better in close games.
