“If he did [say that], I’m happy to see him step up in that light,” Butler said, smiling. “He’s the face of the franchise. He’s the guy. It’s about time for that talk to be coming out of his mouth. I’m happy to see that.”
Anyone else read that as sort of a tongue-in-cheek comment? Just curious.
If it was
it was more of an “Airplane!” TIC as opposed to a “Meet the Spartans” TIC.
Personally, I think the tone was more “We’ll see if he backs this up on the court next season.”
That's true
I don’t have any beef with Butler, and he seems like an honest guy. I just usually laugh when another really good player says something like, “He’s the guy.” Not that he’s wrong, though.
Arenas becoming more serious?
“It’s difficult because everyone likes to kick you when you’re down,” Arenas said. “This is one of them tough seasons we had, and you know, everyone’s laughing at us now. We’ll see what happens when November rolls around.”
Let’s hope that we’ll be flying high by November/December this year…..

Anyone else cringe at the thought of a workout plan devised by Gilbert? The last time he was in charge of his own rehab he just made it worse. Gilbert: just do what you’re told.
I share some of this concern
But at the same time, that quote doesn’t make it clear whether Gilbert ironed out his offseason by himself. I’d think the team would have been involved in that.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
And
you would have thought that they would have been involved the first time he was cut on.

It's not rehab....
He’s been cleared to play by the Training staff and by the Doctors….
He’s no longer in rehab …..
This Summer he is working on his “skills” – ball handling, shooting, etc… to get his skilz back

I’m just saying we don’t know just from that quote. We can have an educated guess, but we don’t know the truth for sure just from that quote.
