Around SBN: 2012 Africa Cup Of Nations Final

To be honest, I want to lead the league in triple-doubles next season. I'm not gonna go out there and try to score 30. We have enough scorers on this team and I can dominate the game in other ways...
Next year, I'm trying to turn into a real point guard. Since, we didn't have a legit [shooting] guard, I took on the scoring mentality, especially in Eddie's system. Eddie's system was just two guard, two forwards and a center, it wasn't really no point guard, and no [shooting guard]... So, now we're coming into a regular system when I'm going to be the point guard, it's the my chance to really manage the team for the first time in my career...
Now, [Flip] is going to put the ball in my hands and just let me run the team.

Gilbert's Expectations and Personal Changes for Next Year

There is a lot of good stuff in here, especially when he's talking about all the media hype about him being uncoachable or uncontrollable. It's all BS, as I have said.

These quotes are exactly what is going through Gil's head. He knows what's best for the team, and he's willing to do whatever it takes to make the team better. He's a gym rat who works his ass off.

He makes a great point about Eddie's offense. There really wasn't a true point guard. Someone brought up the ball, and they did their worthless 3-man weave. There was no point guard to create or play-make.

Things will be different next year, and Gil knows what it takes to adapt to the new situation.

Read the whole thing.

This is important news

Important enough that I think it should be front page news….

OK everyone – NOW do you think that Gilbert can get 20 points and 11-12 assists a night? and possibly be in the running for MVP next year?

Only when he shows me what he's capable of....

and I think we saw a glimpse when he came back this year….

In addition, I think Arenas knows that his career, and his “stardom” will ultimately be judged on whether he wins a Championship or not…. and the only way the Wizards will even come close, is if Arenas becomes more like Nash, Kidd, Deron Williams and Chris Paul… Less the “Agent Zero” and more the team facilitator…

i'm worried that gil has already started trashing his coach

’he’s very offensive’.
troublemaker!

Meh

I’m not loving the whole “triple doubles” line. Still stat-oriented.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

i'm hoping it means

’i’m going to play my freaking tail off, round out my game, play with a chip on my shoulder and be the best guard in the league’’ instead of specifically going for a triple double.

but there’s no question he pays attention to stats. i think a lot of players do, they just rarely talk about it.

I mean, for sure

But at least they don’t talk about it.

I don’t know. I’m fully in “pound the salt” mode with Gilbert, positive or negative.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

meaning?

just be quiet and your game ready for next year?

Sorta

More like “don’t necessarily expect him to actually play like he says/believe his revisionist history just because he said so.”

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

fair enough

i would say you have ample evidence to justify feeling that way.

but i’m glad he feels healthy enough to start talking about his game.

I don't not believe him

I just don’t unilaterally believe him.

I agree with Prada

Gil is gil, cant believe anything he says, because one he likes to create “hype” and two he is just saying whatever he is thinking at the moment, and that changes constantly

I just really hope blatche and nick young work out all summer with GIl. Besides health, that would be the best thing for the Wiz

Arenas is usually sincere, though

He doesn’t make stuff up just to cause trouble, I think he genuinely believes he’ll be a different player next year. It’s whether he focuses and follows through that’s the question.

I definitely think he is being sincere...

…but 48 hrs later he could be completely sincere about trying to score 50 points a game and beat wilt single season points record. He just talks and talks. Hopefully he means it. HOPEFULLY blatche and nick young work their a$$ off and come in ready to work and win

I read it as him shooting for a tangible goal

Anyone can say, “Win games.” Yeah, but HOW? At least will Arenas, he gives you an idea of his methods.

Telling quote

"Since we’re talking last year, Eddie was never caught off guard by anything. He knew everything that was going on. I can say that. The day I came out against Milwaukee, he knew what was going on, he told me what time to come out. It’s a business, I mean, it’s what we do. I’m a controlled chaos. I’m controlled chaos. That’s what it is with me. The only thing I ever did that Eddie didn’t know I was gonna do was the trampoline dunk, and that was just spur of the moment because Shaq dared me. But I’m just a controlled chaos. It’s all planned with me."

Gilbert says on several occasions that the team knew EVERYTHING he was doing…. including when he was coming back – implying that it was all for “show”, part of putting on a basketball show… Interesting.

Except Eddie said the opposite

I honestly don’t believe Gilbert at all there.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

by Mike Prada on Apr 16, 2009 6:35 PM EDT up reply actions

I knew he knew the FreeDarko guys

but it’s still kind odd to see him use the Shoals term controlled chaos."

Also, I laughed at “this interview with this lady.”

Doing his job
I’m just the hype man.
I want to lead the league in triple-doubles next season.
It’s all smoke and mirrors with me.
I should be in the league in top assists.
I just hype up games. That’s what I am, I’m the hype man.

I love Gil, but

this is tripe. He has self decribed himself on numerous occasions as a “scorer.” It is the PRIMARY reason we signed him away from Golden State in the first place. To believe that he is going to turn into Steve Nash or Chris Paul is ludicrous. I wouldn’t mind his assists per game going up, but the bottom line is the reason he is getting 111 million dollars is that he is person you want with ball at the end of games.

Its always Roger Mason (Jr.) time!
