With the expected hiring of Flip Saunders, Jamison also had a great quote while explaining that things will be different for the younger players next season. "I think the coaching staff is really going to have to get them. They've been in a nice bed and breakfast the last couple of seasons," Jamison said.

Not Really

Did AJ ever think to speak up to Ed or Ernie so that these kids would get more out of their time? So the team would be better off?

Flip’s job is to win now. He’ll work them for awhile then settle in on 8 or 9 guys. If you aren’t in that group you won’t get much attention. You might as well be in a bed and breakfast.

Just saying

Don’t expect Flip to give a crap about developing young players.

That's one of my big concerns

I said it on the radio too. My worry is Flip will bury our young guys by default.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

Don't professional NBA Basketball Head Coaches

develop young players on their bench – just for that contingency?

Don’t Professional NBA Basketball teams that are out of the Playoff hunt in mid-season start playing their young talent to see who might be good , and who to get rid of?

I mean, come on guys – think it through. Just because you got a guy sitting on the bench, doesn’t mean that he can’t play, or is not ready to play – - – right? - – - – - -- – ——- —-right ?

I'm a Little Surprised

That none of the young guys haven’t said anything back to Jamison or reporters. They’re calmer than I would be in their situation. It seems like Jamision constantly blames the young ones for the Wizards’ problems even though the only thing you can truly blame is injuries.

If Jamision really wants to help why doesn’t he sit down with the young players and tell them exactly what he does to better himself in the offseason? Why doesn’t Jamison tell them the advice that he may have gotten when he first came into the league? Why doesn’t he tell Blatche what he does specifically to grab so many rebounds per game? Why doesn’t he give Nick some of his post ups moves?

Jamison isn’t the only person that is guilty of this. Why doesn’t Haywood teach McGee some of his defensive techniques? Can you imagine how many blocks McGee would get per game if he played defense like Haywood? I think Arenas is the only person on the team (at least the only person I can remember) that has helped the young guys, even though he could help some more in my opinion.

It seems like Jamison and the rest of the Wizards automatically assume that the young players will learn what to do to better themselves by theirselves. Just because Arenas for example puts up thousands of shots in the offseason doesn’t mean that Jamison should expect the same out of Nick if no one has sat down with him and told him what he should do specifically to get better. You would hope that the young guys would have enough common sense to look around and see what the veterans are doing and copy their work habits. Yet you would also hope that the veterans would have enough common sense to offer their help and guidance to the young players so they could play to their abilities.

What could they say?

We don’t want a Donte Green/Bobby Jackson situation on our hands.

Now writing for Ridiculous Upside, where we knew who Mike Taylor was before you did.

After 2 years

They’ve largely tuned him out. He’s all bark and no bite. He’s the old man telling them to pull up their pants and eat right. They are kids who know everything and take care of themselves.

If any of the

Veterans did try to mentor the young players they didn’t do a good job and/or didn’t put in too much effort. I find it hard to believe that the veterans actually sat down with the young players and had a long and thorough conversation and then went to the gym with them to work on their game. In order to do this, at least in the way that I suggest, it would have to take place in the offseason and would take weeks. If any of the older players did this with the younger players it would have been reported and I don’t remember hearing anything like this.

Maybe it did happen and I missed it, if that’s the same case then Jamison has every right to be mad at the young guys. However, my point is that no one should automatically assume that the young Wizards will always do the right thing if they haven’t been taught what the right thing is. If they have been taught the right thing yet haven’t done it then maybe it’s time for them to be shipped out for somebody who will.

I agree somewhat

Jamison is hammering the young guys more than is warranted.

However, Jamison is one of the hardest working players we got, and our leader. He knows a lot more than we do about locker room dynamics, about the work ethic of the young guys, and what it takes to make it in the league.

He usually isn’t a whiner, but there’s probably something to this comment.

Guess everyone missed this:
Jamison added that it is important for the youngsters and veterans to work out and hang out with each other this summer.
