Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

Now all we need to do is add Dwane Casey and we'll have the Timberwolf trifecta.

That's actually kind of what I was thinking

Is Randy Wittman known as any kind of specialist, even? He seems like the type who’s stuck around the league because he’s got head coaching experience, not because he’s ever been good at it.

Yeah

I don’t really like this. But then again, there’s a lot about assistant coaching that I really wouldn’t know.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

Not a big deal............

There are a bunch of old head coaches (with bad records) acting as assistants now.

Bernie Bickerstaff anyone?

He’s an assistant with the Bulls FYI.

Definition: assistant coach

Someone who is to be good enough to help, but not so good that he threatens the job of the head coach should the team falter.

See O’Koran, Mike.

Director of Player Development

Just look at what Eddie Jordan and Ed Tapscott did then think the opposite, and there you have it. Something that we haven’t had in years.

Casey

Dwane Casey would be a great addition. Isn’t he supposed to be a strong defensive guy? I’d be more excited about his addition that the addition of Wittman.

Cassell was a T-wolf too

so you already have a trifecta

Good point

Adding Dwane Casey would give the Wizards a barbershop quartet or T-Wolves.

Loved this line by Aldridge
It might be that we’re looking everywhere else to find someone who can get in Arenas’s head when the right guy looks at him in the mirror every morning. If that’s true, then Saunders will do just fine.

The entire premise that the Wizards need a coach to “control” Arenas is flawed. The only one that can influence what Arenas will do is….. well, Gilbert Arenas.

Definitely

Which is why I ultimately disagreed with that Wilbon piece.

Have to agree

Which flies in the face of most of the Pro-Flip pieces I’ve read that spin him as a good fit because he is more likely to get along with Arenas than Avery Johnson would.

by Jheiser3 on Apr 15, 2009 6:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh yeah.... but I agree with both of those statements

Flip WILL get along better with Gilbert Arenas….

AND having Avery Johnson as the Coach of the Wizards would be a disaster….. with Gil and Avery at each other’s throats within 3 months….

But – both comments are flawed as they relate to getting Arenas to play a certain way. NO Coach will be able to tell Arenas how to play…. Arenas himself will have to buy into a certain style of play – and if it happens to be the way Flip Saunders wants him to play – so much the better….

We’ll see next year. If Arenas reverts to “Agent Zero”, throwing up 30-ft shots, coming across the half court line looking for his shot, with a shoot-first attitude – then things might get dicey…

On the other hand, Arenas is a smart dude…. He knows that the best way for this team to win, and the best way for him to get back into MVP, All-Star, All-NBA discussions is to be a pass-first Point Guard…. and put up 20-22 points with double digit assists. If he does that, then Flip will be ecstatic, and the Wizards will be a very dangerous team.
