An old article I stumbled across while trying to get an update on Gilbert's knee. A pretty harsh indictment leveled against Gil. The comments were just as brutal.

What I don't understand is this: if Gilbert is fully healthy, then why doesn't he play? If he's not fully healthy, then what's the problem? How can his knee still be bothering him after all this time?

Paranoia

That’s the only rationale that I can come up with. Either Gilbert or the training staff is very, very afraid that if they let him on the court before he’s absolutely, positively 100% that he’ll get injured again and I guess they’re hoping that if he doesn’t come back at all that it will put those fears away for good.

I’m not sure if that’s the best strategy, but I’m not the doctor either.

I'm pissed

I can’t even watch wizards games right now I’m so disgusted with this season. If Gilbert is healthy and not playing – he should give his salary to season ticket holders for defrauding us. I know I’m being a little irrational but it’s just the way I feel right now. part of the reason I feel so mad is because the week after I paid my final payment on my season tickets, Gilbert announces another surgery. I am a little cynical about the timing. Just frustrated right now. I’m glad I have league pass so I can watch other games.

You Know Why I'm Pissed?

This team guards information like they are the freakin’ KGB. One of the things I really liked about Ted Leonsis’s Ten-Point Rebuilding Plan was #2:

2. Once you make the decision to rebuild—be transparent. Articulate the plan and sell it loudly and proudly to all constituencies, the media, the organization, the fans, your partners, family and anyone who will listen. Agree to what makes for a successful rebuild—in our case it is “a great young team with upside that can make the playoffs for a decade and win a Stanley Cup or two.”

Now ask yourself, are the Wizards transparent? Remember when Gilbert surprised almost everyone by coming back against the Bucks last season, and even the head coach didn’t know until right before tip-off? Remember when he shut it down after Game 4 of the playoffs? Remember when he said it was to ensure he would be ready to start the next season? Remember when he said his 3rd knee surgery was no big deal, and that he’d be on the court by December? Remember when December turned into January? Remember when he was supposed to come back for the last 15 games of the season? Remember how even Ernie Grunfeld said he would play this season? Instead of transparency, the Wizards give the fans and media no information. We are like fungi, we are constantly kept in the dark and fed feces. Now one report is that Brendan can play full-contact, while he personally says he knows nothing about that. This leaves reporters like Ivan Carter and Mike Jones speculating on what will happen, because the team won’t tell them. Does anybody on this team know what the hell is going on? Would anyone like to share it? In a season in which the team is 16-51, you would think that the least this organization can do is give fans hope, or at least a straight answer.

Hey Gilbert, if you’re reading this, what the effing hell is still wrong with your knee? Is it still bothering you? Do you still get swelling? Last I heard there was no swelling after over a week of full practices. Are you limited in motion? What is going on?

Very frustrating -

they also issue misleading information or maybe Gilbert does – sometimes I don’t know who runs the team – Gilbert or mgmt. We are left wondering right and left because they aren’t honest with us. And we fans deserve better. I hope to hell we get a coach who takes charge of this team and issues some direction.
