He is what we need. A veteran who knows how to play the game, a guy who can play multiple positions, knock down big shots, defensively sound. That's a luxury we had last year, that's a luxury we don't have this year.

Antawn Jamison, using his latent GM skills to talk about ex-teammate Roger Mason, Jr..

(Me: If RMJ was such a big factor, why let him go without a fight? It wouldn't be the first time a player suck up for a teammate.)

Luxury?

I’m sure the word “luxury” was carefully and deliberately chosen.

Antawn showing mild disrespect to the Organization for not paying the Luxury Tax?

Hmmm...

didn’t catch that in first read. Good eye. Then again, no one’s ever confused Jamison with the Riddler.

Doubt It

Luxury, in the context it was used in, is part of a very common expression. I don’t think there were any hidden meanings involved, although I do think Jamison is a bit remorseful that we couldn’t resign Mason, even if he understands and accepts the reasons. If Jamison was really bitter about it, he would have used words like “necessity” or “essential”.
