Just when this team gives you a reason to be excited and a turnaround looks evident, they take 2 steps back. I just can't get a handle on this team. Does ANYONE doubt that we have the TALENT of a much better team? I don't. I just don't know what the hell is holding us back. I know SOME reasons we aren't performing up to expectations, but what are the other reasons?
What upsets me the most is this awful habit we have of settling for jumpers. Until the Milwaukee game, it was Caron who was the most guilty of doing this. Last night it was Jamison. He seemed bound and determined to make a 3 pointer, no matter what. I don't know off hand how many 3's he took, but to me it looked like 100, and I only saw him make one.
Next up is obviously Gil's production. From what I see, I really think he still has it in him to be the player he was before the injury. I don't know if it's a mental block or what, but he needs to snap out of it. The bottom line is that this team will not go anywhere without him.
Now, I have one more pet peeve of this young season. And the reason I saved this for last is because I plan on getting plenty of backlash for it. I KNOW that Earl Boykins is a great story, he's got a huge heart, and his skill outreaches his height. But He is NOT the centerpiece of this team. For some reason, Flip has become dependent on him, and I really think it's hurting the team overall. His original role as a bench sparkplug was ideal. But his new role as "team savior" is FAR FROM ideal. At the end of the day, Earl is limited in what he can do on offense AND defense, and teams know this and will expose it come crunch time. We need to get back to leaning on the big three come crunch time, and stop letting Boykins dominate the ball.
