Earl Boykins...
I don't know if it's the particular matchup, but the second Gil goes out each and every game, our offense becomes nonexistent and one of two things happen:
1. Earl Boykins dribbles, and dribbles more, and more, and more until he passes and a terrible shot gets jacked up as the shot clock sounds, or
2. Earl Boykins dribbles, and dribbles some more, but this time finds an alley to drive and either gets off a runner or passes to open shooter.
Option 2 doesn't make for much more of a consistent offense than 1, but in rare instances (like tonight against the Bucks), things click and shots fall. Most of the time, however, this Gilbert-for-Earl sub halts whatever offensive momentum we have and is when our large leads evaporate.
I gotta believe that for this team to get a legitimate win this year, we need a backup ball handler that can see over defenders' heads the floor, pass quicker, and keep offensive continuity.

I agree too
Boykins is fools gold. It’s great that he has come in and saved our asses a few times, but I really don’t like the way the ball stops when he is on the floor. He is not a long-term answer at backup PG.
In a way, he’s kind of like a miniature version of Arenas. He’s a good scorer at the PG position and a decent passer, but he’s not a very good defender due to his height. Boykins has been a nice fit for the first few months of the season as Arenas has worked off the rust, but as Arenas improves his ball handling and PG skills, Boykins will become redundant.
Over the long term, I’d like a Kyle Lowry type of player at backup PG – a bulldog of a PG who can play real good D and penetrate pretty well on offense. That’s a guy that would be a good yang to Gil’s yin.
Enough Boykins bashing
The guy has won 3 or 4 games for us. Considering that we have 10 wins, I think that’s pretty awesome for a backup PG.
Depth
One good thing about our team is that we have so many guards that if one night its a bad matchup for Boykins we have Gilbert of course and then we could bring in Foye to play next to him, we could bring in Young, we’ll have Miller back soon, we have McGuire if we need some defense and rebounding at guard, we have Stevenson who is basically worthless but at least he is another body. Who knows, maybe even Crittenton can come in and give us some good nights occasionally when/if he gets back from his injury.
So to me its not a huge problem if Boykins can’t run the offense effectively, or defend certain players every single night in the 4th quarter because we have so many other options.
I need to Earl!!
Earl Boykins was great in the beginning, but isn’t that how it is for Earl. There’s a reason why this dude was out of the league for a few years. He is a done deal, time to waive him, Randy Foye has come back to life and Earl is like my son running around dribbling the basketball. Enough already! It was nice while it lasted. I need to Earl!!
