Mike Jones: No more DeShawn Stevenson starting
Yay! About time I say.
Flip says he's probably going to play Randy Foye to keep Nick Young's role consistent, though he could also go with Young. Philadelphia does start two small guards, so Foye makes a lot of sense there.

I agree that it's about time
but I’d rather Young start than Foye, since Foye hasn’t been all that impressive since he came back. Arenas played well with him in the lineup early on, though, so maybe it’ll be fine. Based on the handful of games that I’ve seen, Stevenson seems to do better defensively when he’s coming off the bench. I’m just worried that now he’ll really feel like he has to look for his shot when he comes in, which is the opposite of what should happen.
Ridiculous Upside, where developing talent and winning are not mutually exclusive.
on one hand
it’s good, b/c based on early returns, stevenson should never play ever again.
but i mostly want to vomit in my mouth because, to me, this means we’re still going with boykins backing up gilbert.
that can’t be the short or long term plan. it just can’t.
fill me in if i’m missing something.

Foye and Arenas start...
At 7-9 minutes Young replaces Foye. Early in Q2 Foye replaces Arenas. At the 8 minute mark, Arenas replaces Young… In short 3 guys split 48 minutes of backcourt time per half roughly 18-16-14… Boykins gets spot duty if extra offense is needed, Stevenson, or better still, McGuire, is the spot duty defender. It works if we can get good effort out of all three guard rotation players…. This is why EG paid Gilbert 111 mil. This is why EG traded what could have been Jennings or Curry for Foy. This is why EG drafted Young. Time to go all in, Wizzies.
When Miller comes back a reconsideration is possible, but I see Miller as the starting 3 with Caron on the block if we can get the right man or men in return.
I agree with everything
Though I’d sit Gilbert a little longer until the six minute mark. Otherwise, well done. It’s what we did in the preseason, why not do it now?
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
i hope you're right and i hope it works
and i’d still make a trade at the deadline.

Clearly Stevenson has no shot at the moment. I think his D has been pretty good, but I’m not against replacing him because he’s been a real offensive liability.
But Foye? Foye has been the most disappointing player on the roster.
True, but I don’t know how much of a chance he has gotten to get into a rhythm. Between being injured and the shaky minutes he’s been given, it’s been tough for him.
really?
don’t mean for you to catch the brunt of it, but i am really tired of hearing this. i’ve heard it about blatche, young, foye, mcgee. now stevenson?! ugh.
i was rooting for deshawn, but it’s time for him to sit.

I think he's talking about Foye, not DeShawn
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
of course.
funny how i completely missed that interpretation. thank you!

I would start Young personally
But maybe Flip feels Foye can’t play well off the bench. He has started his whole career, after all.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
I would start Young too
unless Miller seems close to returning and Flip doesn’t want to keep changing the lineup repeatedly…
Or maybe Flip is just shuffling the deck to see who will provide a spark. Unfortunately Foye seems completely sparkless. Honestly I think he’s like Stevenson without the D at the moment.

He's "Obertoing" Stevenson and now Foye
He’s trying to keep the rotation consistent except for the missing player (you know, cuz he doesn’t wanna mess up the good thing he has going). When Miller comes back, Foye will probably be stuck with the kind of minutes Oberto is getting now. The good news is that this means Stevenson is now the fourth string SG (where he should have been to begin with). Call me a crazy optimist, but I still have hope that Foye can get it going again — he’s was a pretty respectable player before his slump this year (just imagine if he could go left!)
