Will this be a turning point
Or the beginning of the end.
Excuses for the Wizards Not Being Competitive
They were tired… Gilbert is still finding his groove after being out for two whole seasons… Caron is still adjusting to his new role… everybody still needs to learn the new offense… they were tired… it was the second game of a back to back… mumble, mumble

Reality Check
Watching the games online, you get to hear the hometown announcers in other cities. So, rather than Phil and Buckhantz being nice, you get to hear other assessments.
What was refreshing about the Phoenix announcers was how shocked they were at how bad the Wizards are: Don’t pass, don’t have an offense, don’t play defense, don’t have any energy etc. It was as if they couldn’t believe the Wizards were an NBA team.
Trying to think of an analogy, but it’s like if you’ve been listening to Green Day all your life and suddenly you hear the Clash or the Jam or the Buzzcocks. Oh. wow.
Also, it made me feel less crazy, like, I’m not the only one who can’t believe how bad the Wiz’s offensive choices and lineups are.
Lineups
Like D-Steve? How’s he getting minutes on an NBA team with the way he’s playing right now? Curious to see if they can win a couple next week. If they lose their next 3 games, I say blow it up. It’s enough.
My swag was phenomenal.
He's just bad
Couldn’t shoot last year, either. I know he’s a “floor spacer”, but Dominic McGuire would probably shoot a better percentage on threes than him right now. He should never play.

I've NEVER
been a fan of Stevenson, but this is ridiculous. He’s basically morphed into a 6’5 Ben Wallace. An absolute liability on offense. Except Wallace doesn’t jack airball 3’s. Oh yeah, AND Wallace brings you defense and rebounding. Stevenson, doesn’t. His “calling card” is supposed to be his defense, yet I continuously see guys blow by him, make the shot, AND get the +1 cuz he fouled too late.
He Didn't Used to Be This Bad
DeShawn had a .542 true shooting percentage his first season with the team, and was instrumental in the team being the best in the East for a brief moment in time back in 2007. Two seasons ago, he stepped up big in the absence of Gil and had some very big games for us, being a big threat from the 3-point line. But ever since his back broke down last season he’s been practically worthless. He had a good game against Cleveland the last time we played, but other than that he’s been unworthy to be in the game. It’s time for him to retire, and if he won’t, for the Wizards to inactivate him.

like I said
I’ve never liked him. But even I will admit he used to be somewhat useful. Now he’s far from that.
was somewhat expecting the result tonight
but nevertheless still more bothered about the current state of the team than i expected to be after this game.
the brunt of it:
i’m not sure ernie has made a net positive addition to the roster in 4 years time. that’s pretty piss poor. i’m beginning to see the light that is a sucky randy foye and the lottery pick we gave up to get him. (that trade could have gone either way. looks like it is breaking the wrong way for us.)
since i can’t reasonably put any faith in a 2010 mike james or crittendon playing a key role for a good team, and since i don’t want to hear anything more about harold miner, i mean nick young, unless he miraculously nets us something in a trade, the hope of retaining the current roster and going on a run seems to depend on both our lottery pick foye turning it around and an extended period of health for all of GA, MM, CB, AJ, BTH, AB, and RF.
the likelihood of that? slim.
so EG needs to either make a minor trade at the deadline to get us somebody like kirk hinrich out of spare parts, or he needs to blow it up and trade at least one of the big 3, which i can only view as a big step backwards for the organization.
(hopefully things work out in an unexpected way and i’ll look like an idiot for writing this, for really going negative on the long term state of the team for the first time this year, but…)

oops
by a trade at the deadline, i mean a trade in like a week or two. if we don’t improve the bench, this ship might already be sunk by the deadline.

That was the first game in a long time
That I didn’t bother to finish watching.
I’m not surprised it was that bad – I think that this game meant basically nothing. We were playing a good team, on the road, on the back end of a back to back.
I like what I'm hearing (reading) from Flip in recent days
Before Friday’s game, there were the great quotes about shot selection. After this game, this gem: “You can come up with excuses every night…. If you want to be an average team those thoughts can’t enter your mind.” Average team? OUCH.
Trades aren’t the answer for this team. Because then you have the one new guy who might play the right way, but you still have the rest of this team. FLIP needs to blow it up, and by that I mean that he needs to lay down the law of what will be required of the players. Good shot selection, great effort on defense, smart, unselfish passing, etc. Whoever meets those criteria plays, whoever doesn’t, doesn’t play, regardless of salary. It’s already a lost season, so might as well right this ship for the long term.
Thank you sir
Bringing a new player to a poorly coach team is not going to change . Flip needs to coach this team up
they may be
poorly coached. But how many coaches can you blame it on? We’re at 3 now, since last year, with the same results. I say ship someone out, and maybe that will light a fire under the rest of the team. We have enough talent to win. If they need a coach to motivate them to do so, then we don’t want them anyway.
demoted
there should be an incentive system in the nba so teams will compete their hearts out to not be the bottom 4 teams in the league lest they be banished to a lower league in exchange for the top 4 teams in the low league (like italian serie a and serie b) soccer. and to make it more interesting 30 pct of the former high league teams should be redistributed to the former low league teams.

cb
also am I the only one who thinks cb is hiding an injury? or lost a step?
by rzawrecktah on Dec 20, 2009 8:20 AM EST via mobile reply actions
I think
he either lost a step, or is way too enamored with his dribbling/shooting ability. He dribbles WAY too much, then pumpfakes WAY too much, then shoots the jumper WAY too much. I will say he has started driving more, which gets better results. But he needs to keep it up.
He's Playing Hurt
From Michael Lee of the Washington Post:
Arenas wasn’t the only Wizard who didn’t seem to have it. Caron Butler, wearing a different pair of shoes to help the soreness in his left ankle, didn’t seem to have any lift after a season-best performance against Golden State. He had just 10 points and a difficult time finishing near the hoop.
I guess we are just going to have to face the fact that at least one of the Big 3 is always going to be hurt for the rest of their careers. Either they are just very fragile, or you can chalk it up to our inept training staff.

hey, if they dont care. i dont care. that is just how it goes. the NBA has a major problem when so many TEAMS dont show up for games and the regular season is 7 months long.

Flip still doesn't get it
He starts 5 guys that have been around for a while and have a personality and track record, including not showing up for the second game of a back-to-back on the road after winning the previous night.
What’s the point of playing the Big 3 in such a game when they are logging heavy minutes and are banged up? Does he feel better to rip them after the game?
The starters were down by 25. Would it have mattered if the unit that finished the game had started and were down by 35?
Flip’s formula seems identical to EJ’s: ride the Big 3, no player development, wait for an injury, get a useless draft pick.
Lose now, lose in the playoffs (if you make them), lose next year.
