That was fun to watch
I like this team. I like their attitude. I think we are going to be a force.

NJ is one of the worst teams in the league and was missing their only truly good player.
Sure was fun to watch. Glad that we didn’t play down to their level. That was a problem in the past.
Go Blatche.

And?
We were missing 2 of our best 3 players and they have one of the best second year players in the league on their team (Lopez)

Didn't mean to be pissy
But, its just nice to appreciate when we actually clobber the teams that we are supposed to clobber especially when we are overcoming injuries.

That’s exactly what I was doing. Just keeping perspective. Not a single one of their players would start on our team. Probably only Lopez would be “second string” on the Wiz.

I think Lopez will eventually be better than Haywood… right now, he’s not as good defensively.
Also remember, it’s easy to put up good Offensive numbers playing for a bad team that has few other offensive options.

He didn’t look it to me.

I was thinking the same thing
When was the last time that a team was missing their best player and the Wiz actually played well? Normally a teams star will be out, and the wiz will play like sh!! and blow the game.
I have a man crush on Foye.
If Blatche can bring that kind of energy every this season, wow, our bench got a lot better

Looked good from section 402
I’m 1-0 in my orange Arenas Bullets jersey.
Bullets>Mavs>Lakers.
Bullets>Lakers.
I’m cut off.

Confidence builder
That game should help build some confidence and chemistry. I was happy to see McGee gets some minutes. Imagine this team with AJ and CB.
The only downside was that NY looked lost out there for one than one possession.

Young's role
Young gave this team so much last year but this year his minutes are going to be down because of Randy Foye. Young is going to need to just keep his head up high and keep at it, but at least he scored tonight. That has to have him feeling a bit better after his performance Friday night in Atlanta.

Blatche
He may have really changed. I’ve NEVER seen 3 consecutive amazing games from him. Granted, the Nets stink without Devin, but Blatche was just GREAT.
My swag was phenomenal.

It will be interesting to see how he reacts when his jumpers aren't falling

Yeah, I'm waiting to see what happens there, too
One good sign is that he doesn’t seem to be getting too excited about his good play. Love the blue collar, workman-like attitude so far.

Judging from the Box Score
I didn’t see the first three quarters (and it sounds like that’s where most of that action was), so here’s what I’m liking most from the stats line: 8 and 7 assists respectively from Foye and Gilbert. And while their dishing out the assists, they’re both scoring. (And 5 assists from Oberto, btw.) This is looking like a passing team. I did see them work the ball around for that Blatche slam in the fourth. Were they doing that all game?
One stat that has me a little nervous. We only won the rebound battle by 4, 36-32. Miller had 11 rebounds, but Haywood (7) and Blatche (6) is not gonna get it.

Miller stole a bunch of rebounds from them
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

He seriously did
I could see it creating chemistry issues down the line

I'm not sure I believe
in “stealing” rebounds. He attacks the ball on the defensive glass like we want all our players to do.
by Palace of Good Play's Golden Toilet on Oct 31, 2009 11:42 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The context of the "stealing" line
Is to respond to criticisms that the big players didn’t rebound enough. There were several times when they were right there to grab the rebound, but Miller came out of nowhere to sky and grab it. All I’m saying is that shouldn’t be used against the big guys.
And as an aside, I do believe that any stat, whether it’s rebounds, points or assists, can be accumulated selfishly.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

Hahaha. Miller fights harder for rebounds against his teammates than most of the team fought for them against the opponent last year.
by MR on Nov 1, 2009 5:57 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Miller's just doing what the coach is asking him to do
It’s clear that Flip has asked our SGs to crash the boards, because it’s not just Miller, it’s DeShawn, too. 7.4 rebs per 36 minutes from DeShawn?!? Didn’t see that one coming.

PLUS - the Wizards shot over 60%
not a lot of Offensive rebound opportunities there…..

Couple thoughts
-I don’t know who that was, but it sure wasn’t andray blatche. The guy flat-out dominated. If he can produce anywhere near that level this season, we’ll be deep and deadly at the 4.
-related note: we really won’t know what this offense is capable of until Jamison is integrated in. Oberto does a lot of good little things, but he’s a black hole on offense. Add AJ’s multi-tooled threat and I’m not sure any team in the league has a more potent offense.
-some good signs on defense, though still several breakdowns, particularly early.
-Gil is BACK
by sierradave on Oct 31, 2009 11:42 PM EDT via mobile reply actions 0 recs
Amen to Gil
That halfcourt buzzer-beater had everyone going crazy. Definitely back. The end-all to all “backs.”
Speaking of backs, when Stevenson nails his threes, this team is rocking. Okay, maybe this was an undermanned Nets team, but without Butler and Jamison, you have to love it.

Blatche still improving
Blatche has improved at least one aspect of his game every year. This year, I’m seeing him doing a better job getting set and squared up for his jumper (to great effect, and with a little more range), and playing more under control on defense (the two things he needed to improve most).
By ‘black hole’ I assume you mean that Oberto doesn’t score much, not the traditional “Kevin McHale” version, because he’s a good and all-too-willing passer. There was one play (tonight?) where he got the ball wide open under the hoop and decided not to shoot because help was coming. I think he followed it up with a pass for a bucket, but I still couldn’t help but laugh at a center not shooting when he got the ball alone under the basket.
Raise your hand if you think we’d be 2-1 and excited about this team with the rights to Rubio instead of Foye and Miller.

Clearly he’s got a way to go with the refs. That “blocking” call was absurd.
I’m starting to wonder if the replacements wouldn’t have been such a bad thing. At least they would have come in with clean slates.

yeah -
for this year at least that trade is looking brilliant. all 3 new acquisitions started last night, and all 3 are playing really important roles.
