ESPN staff preview the Wizards
Nothing too surprising here. 5 writers have us as #6 in the East; one each for numbers 4, 5, 7, 8, and 9 (yes, that's right, David Thorpe has us finishing outside of the playoffs this year). Two writers have us at #4 in the SE (Thorpe and Chris Sheridan). Chris Broussard seems to love us: number 2 in the SE and #4 in the East. Thanks man. Sheridan's pick really confuses me. He writes that we should get 44 wins, but has us as the last team into the playoffs... We're talking about the Eastern Conference, right?

It's a Reflex
they see the name “Wizards,” and automatically think “something bad will happen to them.”
And they are usually right
I urge everyone not to get too wound up about predictions that you feel are too low by national media.
To predict a finish higher than 5 for a team that finished with 19 wins the prior season is to go out on a limb, something these folks don’t like to do unless it garners them a lot of attention.

They go out on a limb all the time
I don’t get too wound up about the “prognosticators” low rankings about the Wizards… but I do get perturbed when a perceived negative for the Wizards, is a perceived positive for the Lakers, Cleveland or Boston. You can’t have it both ways….
Either a player with an expiring contract, on a contending team, is an “asset” (either through his play, or as a Trade chip); or he’s a liability (playing for stats). It’s not an asset for Boston, but a liability for the Wizards.
Kevin Garnett’s surgically repaired knee is just as negative as Gilbert Arenas and his “balky knee” – They’re both “doubts” – but one team gets the benefit of the doubt…. while the other team is downgraded because of the doubt.
