According to both Michael Lee and Mike Jones, LeBron James isn't going to play tonight because of "flu-like symptoms."  Basketbawful once described "flu-like symptoms" as meaning "a generic description used to cover up for the fact that a player is too hungover to play."  So either LeBron had a long night or he's so freaked out from playing the Wizards that he won't even show up.  I'm leaning towards the second.

Flip's going with his big lineup tonight, which, frankly, is awesome.  It's awesome that he's using the preseason how it should be used -- to experiment with different combinations.  This is in stark contrast to Eddie Jordan, who denied his new team the chance to practice his Princeton offense for three quarters in a preseason game because of an '"in-game feel,' based on some of the Knicks knowing the Princeton," according to Kate Fagan of the Philly Inquirer.  If the Wizards hit the ground running with their system faster than the 76ers in the regular season, we'll know why.

This is an open thread, so while it might be preseason, I and you all should really want to be the CrabDribbles.

GO WIZARDS!

The last guy in the world I want to defend is Shaq

Other than LeBron James.

But it’s possible he was asked “is this the best team you’ve ever been on,” and if so, he kind of has to say yes.

If this isn’t the case, then commence the hating.

Yeah

Let’s see how good they are tonight, missing their best player, their starting PG, and last year’s starting SG ….

I made the statement that without LeBron James, this Cleveland squad is a Lottery team – tonight should be a test of that statement.

5:32 PM….Wizards starters are in….the Wizards will go BIG tonight….Gilbert Arenas and Caron Butler in the back court…Fabricio Oberto starts at center… Antawn Jamison at small forward and Andray Blacthe at power forward

According to ESPN:

James to miss exhibition against Washington with flu

Cleveland forward Darnell Jackson and guard Coby Karl are also out with the flu.

In addition, the Cavaliers will be without guards Mo Williams (groin), Delonte West (personal reasons) and forward Danny Green (leg bruise).

On NBATV

They’re previewing the Cavs, and they’re having a secret scout segment kind of like how SI has one.

The only problem is, the only way to keep the scout “secret” is to doctor his voice and take out their whole body. So basically, it sounds really weird. They might as well have had the dude write something in and put it in a box.

I love NY1 on front

Our site on the back.

We’ll try to make it happen.

I think it's already been done? maybe?

I remember it from that NY interview where he said he loves Coldplay but I don’t know the exact link.

Yes, right

And I think hibachi might be right, it might have already been done.

I have watched this game closely

and have no idea why DeShawn is playing 5 ft off his man at all times

Its always Roger Mason (Jr.) time!

It seems like that Opie looking ref is

the one calling all the fouls on the Wizards.

It looks like they're really executing what they practice

During the NBA TV Wizards practice thing Flip had them closing on the 3pt line every time a pass was made and it looks like they’re doing that well.

I doubt it

Because the Wiz probably want that roster flexibility to make a 2-for-1 trade or in case injuries result.

doubt it

Ernie will want to have that extra spot for flexibility.

Replay on 24-second violations?

I doubt it’ll happen too often but that’ll be annoying. They should leave some things to the refs…

McGee rolling?

I ask honestly, because it seemed like he was the first option to me.

Yeah – I know…. but having the young guys learn how to close out games is important in the long run….

Jamison, Haywood, Oberto, Miller and Butler won’t be around forever….. Blatche, Young, Foye, McGee and McGuire are the “next 5”…..

Bullets Forever - where "Dagger ! " happens......

by Rook6980 on Oct 14, 2009 9:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Probably not

but you’re right, it’s still important. Especially since Foye/Young have a reasonable chance of starting and we might need Blatche if Antawn is out. and yes, I know it was Paul Davis and not Blatche at the end.

so -

ernie gave up the ‘idea’ of ricky rubio, d-song and etan for miller and foye? not caron-for kwame, but not bad, it seems

I can only think of one trade that outdoes Caron/Kwame

And that, of course, is Pau/Kwame
