Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

The Gilbert Arenas Injury Saga

"Butler said he now definitely thinks Arenas will be back at some point this season. Jamison believes so as well, but he won't get his hopes up too high right now."

Maybe Gilbert will make a good politician one day.....he's candid, he flip-flops more than a politician, and I don't see him racking up DUIs a la Charles Barkley.

come on gilbert

scenario:
team picks it up a bit over the next month – rotation solidifies, mcguire and blatche continue to play well, team plays around .500.
then gil comes back, team is motivated and rejuvenated, squeaks into the playoffs as the 8 seed, faces cleveland, then kicks the living crap out of them.
i’m 98% sure this will happen.

i know

i don’t you’re right. gilberto is one of favorite guys in the game. i am just frustrated that i never get to see the guy play. but you can’t exactly deny the comparison – at this point anyway.

yeah i try really hard not to think about that.

i also think that gilbert could be a very effective point guard even if he loses a bit of his explosiveness.
but wiz fans gotta believe that he will be ok when he comes back.

Actually

Arenas has always been an excellent passer, and facilitator. It’s sometimes overlooked when he scores 30 or 40 points…

If he were to come back, with less of that explosive first step, he could still be a 20ppg 9apg guy… He would just have to adjust his usage a bit. Take fewer shots….. but create more assist opportunities.

Funny thing is, the PG’s in the NBA who get the most “love” from the media (Paul 20ppg/11apg ; Deron Williams 15ppg/10apg ; Nash 15ppg/8.4apg ; etc….) as being “pure” Point Guards compare pretty well to Arenas’ last full year (06-07) when he put up 28ppg 6apg when he was called a Shot Jacking ball hog. And I’m talking about Arenas ratcheting down his game to shoot less and pass more…..

If Gil comes back and scores less, but puts up higher assist numbers – maybe he’ll start getting the respect from the “pure” PG purist folks.

Simply put...

Nothing in the sports department of my life would make me happier than to see Gilbert Arenas come back and silence all of his critics and all of the naysayers… 20 PPG, 9-10 dimes and 6-7 rebounds would do that just fine, thank you.

I do too-

especially when they show him sitting on the bench on tv broadcasts. It makes me want to see him back on court.

it would not surprise me

if his return comes in the form of a surprise – one home game soon he just suits up and comes off the bench.
i can dream, at least.

That's basically what happened last year

So yeah, it wouldn’t surprise me at all. I’m pretty much expecting that.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

just hope he learned from last year

and does it when he’s totally healthy – obviously.
couldn’t hurt to give tapscott a heads up about it either.
