New game, same story
Every time the Wizards lose a 4th quarter lead is like another piece of garbage being thrown onto the littered beach that is this season. By now, you'd think that you'd be desensitized to it, yet every time it happens I still feel like shedding a little tear.

This season is killing me-
I don’t know how to stop being so depressed at the state of this team. I take it way too seriously. I have a friend who threatens to have an intervention for me every year because I get consumed with basketball, maybe it needs to happen. I’m at a loss. I just never expected us to be so bad.

me neither
this is monumental bad.
but i won’t stop following – this is the only team in any sport that i really care about, so bailing out is not an option.
but i have definitely stopped getting emotionally involved in the games as much as is possible – just looking at players, seeing what their strengths/weaknesses are.
at least it’s not all deteriorating vets with no young talent.

I won't stop following either -
But I think i need more emotional detachment. It’s not healthy to be this miserable. I need to rediscover my basketball sense of humor.

What's wrong with Butler?
In the Wizards’ last eight games, he’s had shooting efforts of 2-13, 4-9, 1-8, 6-18, 12-24, 7-17, 3-9, and 3-13. In that span, he has games with 6 points, 2 points, 8 points, and 6 points. He’s still putting up some good rebound and assist numbers, but he just hasn’t looked like the same player. Maybe this tough stretch is wearing on him.

tonight was weird for him
he missed some gimme’s early, and never seemed to recover. he was like 1 for 8 or 1 for 7 in the 1st qtr, so he didn’t even try to shoot much after that

I think a big part of it is playing out of position
He’s still adjusting to playing at SG instead of SF. He’ll work out of it soon enough, I hope.

He spoke about it last night after the game
The bad stretch corresponds to when he was moved from his normal starting position at Small Forward to the 2.
Last night, after the game, they interviewed him about his struggles – and he as much as said that playing the 2 is affecting his game – but that the Organization wants to look at some young guys to evaluate them for next year; so they’re playing him at the Shooting Guard. He said he will do whatever the team needs him to do.

One other thing
Anyone else really happy with how Crittenton has been playing? I think he deserves a start or two.
He’s not a shooter, but he doesn’t shoot that much anyway — plus he doesn’t turn the ball over. He had four assists today and no turnovers, and he also plays good on-the-ball defense. Giving Nick Young some starts wouldn’t be a bad idea either.

I like Crittenton's play
but I don’t think he should start, not while Butler’s starting at SG. If anyone not starting currently deserves it, it’s NY, but he’s not enough of a ballhandler to play much point. And as much as I love the young guys, a starting backcourt of Crittenton and NY might be jumping the gun a little. I agree, though, that Crittenton has really grown into this offense after the first few games and found himself a solid role as a rebounder/distributor.
Another point related to Jake’s above, because Butler is the SG, it means he has more ballhandlng responsibilities, since the PG and SG’s roles are somewhat interchangeable in this offense. It could be that he’s adjusting to those responsibilities and it’s affecting his shooting somewhat.

If you aren’t watching anymore, just slink away. Don’t tell others to stop watching.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

Why is it that?
Jamison and Butler can never get hot together, it’s always one or the other, very annoying. And I am aware of the sexual connotations

After seeing Mike James and Caron Butler's lines tonight . . .
I ask if they’ve been thrown out of the palace of good play.

Younguns
If you blinked, you missed it, but there was a short stretch with all kids in there last night. It was Critter, McGee, Blatche, McGuire and Young, and it was nice to see. These theories of Ernie “hiding people” must be true, because I’d much rather pay money to see these exciting young players than the veterans, win or lose.
Like most on here, I am a huge JaVale fan. I hate what all of this must be doing to his confidence. He does not have post up skills yet. You have to feed him the rock on the break. But his teammates seem to ignore him until the shot clock has run down and he has nowhere to go.
It’s true you can’t lob ally oops all game long, but not one in an entire game to this kid with huge hops and wingspan? I think there’s some jealousy there. Since they don’t pass him the ball on offense and yank him from the game after barely a whiff, he wanders around and starts back down the court without getting in position for a rebound.
Reminds me of Haywood. Involve the Big Kid in the offense, and he will be motivated to get those rebounds. If you ignore him in the context of the game, he will drift. It’s just a shame. This kid could put up numbers every night. He’s not Tony Ruffin, Ed. He’s a slashing dunk machine.

Tap-McGee is EJ-Haywood all over again
McGee needs to get a good therapist if he’s going to make it through the season confidence intact.

is it really worse...
than seeing him get schooled by more polished centers night after night? I love mcgee, don’t get me wrong. But when he went up against yao in our first houston game he was pushed around and basically made to look silly. Once people realized he’s a leaper and a shot blocker they adjusted to his game pretty easily.
So ask you…is it really worse for his confidence to watch a few games from the sidelines than to have opposing centers put up monster stat lines against him without fail?

Of the 48 PG minutes
Tapscott allotted 30:28 to Mike James and 17:31 to Crittenton. Shouldn’t that be flipped?
Etan looked to be on pace for 15-20 mins before he got injured.
I consider a night where Nick Young scores 30 to be a victory for us though, no matter what the scoreboard read at the end of the game (though I did grit my teeth several times in the second half).
I would really enjoy letting Critt Young McGuire Blatche McGee start one game, for the hell of it, and I’m sure Jamison and Butler wouldn’t mind having a light night. After all, we are not 27-30 or 17-30, we are 7-30 so lets have some fun.

re: worse
Yes, it’s ok for JaVale to get abused by the Yaos of the world. Let him get posterized and then sit. The look on his face is one of confusion because he is yanked quickly and is not included in the offense. He needs to get more playing time. I don’t think anyone disagrees with that. We’re not talking about starting him against Dwight Howard, but get him some quality minutes. Every time he’s in the game something good happens.
