It seemed to me like there were all these times where Wise wanted to rip into Gilbert more, but didn't. I wish he did.

I think these lines by Wise say it all about some of the fans

Bottom line, this is a minor surgical procedure. After all the drama, the feeling here is Arenas will return with much of the same explosiveness and again work his game and mesh with Butler and his teammates.

The idea that the player who lit up the arena and gave the District’s hoopheads hope is now crippling its future simply because he’s on crutches months after signing a $111 million deal and will be out for probably yet another month?

It just goes to show what he meant to everyone in the first place.

I hated that last line

I don’t even know why it needed to be said. Of course Arenas means a lot to the city, he’s only the franchise player and the guy who saved basketball in D.C.

The only reason I could see is if the line was followed by something like “that’s why this is such a big deal,” or something, referring back to Arenas’ first quote. Otherwise, it was totally pointless. Nobody needs a reminder as to Arenas’ importance.

He Probably Wanted to Say Something Nasty, Then Changed His Mind

and wrote that crap.

Because

This should have happened months ago so that Gil could be ready to start the season. I don’t know if Wise should have ripped into Gil or the team doctors, but he should have ripped into somebody. You don’t pay someone $111 million dollars to sit on the bench during the regular season.

Exactly

The whole thing read like he was so extra cautious to avoid sounding critical so as to not piss off all the parties. When your star player has been suffering the same knee problem for the last 20 months, when he says he wasn’t coming back until January anyway even though the public didn’t know, when he says it’ll all be okay when it hasn’t all been okay at all, then somebody should be criticized.

How many Doctor's do we have on this blog?

Everyone says it should have happened months ago. Do you have a degree that shows that’s what they should’ve been done? It’s very easy to sit on the outside and criticize especially when you have no knowledge of the situation.

You Can't Have It Both Ways

Either the surgery isn’t that big a deal, which means that it could have happened a lot earlier with little risk of adverse results, or it is a big deal. Either way it’s a big deal! Either way somebody should do the die-hard fans a favor and explain to them why our new $111 million dollar man is going to start the season unhealthy for the second season in a row. That is, if the team even cares what fans think.

misinformation

while i’m disappointed that gil won’t be ready to start the season, my opinion of the signing is unchanged.

mostly i’m tired of the misleading information we’re getting from both gilbert and the organization. i’m begining to think that it’s not just repeated wishful thinking, but blatantly untruthful.

I understand

That this surgery is noninvasive and isn’t all that serious; but damn, we went through this same exact thing last year and Gilbert basically sat the entire season out. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he comes back in Febuary and takes that passive role of the “point guard” instead of a pure shooting scorer like I feel he should be. I guess we don’t have enough information yet but if there were any doubts as to whether or not he would be able to start the season healthy without surgery ,why chance it?

I guess one of the biggest stingers is that we literally just locked him up for $111 million and he comes out mere months later and tells us that he is starting from square one all over again.

My best game plan is to sit on the bench and call out specific instructions like 'C'mon Boog,' 'Get ahold of one, Frank,' or 'Let's go, Brooks.' -Earl Weaver
