Olympic Wizards

Interesting article, which I'm too lazy to link but it suggested that if you took an enitre contending team they would have a better chance to win gold then patching a bunch of all-stars together and trying to build chemistry. The article noted that a contending team would already have role players and chemistry in place and in spades and would thus have a greater chance to succeed. The team suggested that made the most sense was the Celtics. The spurs were also suggested but who do the spurs have left after parker (french) Ginobili (argentine) and Dirk (German) are gone. Not that i believe this is a more favorable option, I happen to be in love with our national team right now, but I did feel it was an interesting option and wanted to share it with you all.

This did get me to thinking that the wizards, ours truly, have one of the best teams consisting of straight Americans out there. Minus Songialia and Pech, and i think we could convince pech to play for the US, we are all red white and blue.  This is a good quality to have in my opinion. I think Americans are the cream of the crop when it comes to pressure situations, and we have some great clutch players. But enough im not here to divide our fan base by nationality ( i happen to be nigerian), and the pech comment was for pure comedic purposes (but isnt his entire marriage with the wiz. for the sole purpose of providing hilarious awkwardness that you can't be taught you must be endowed with?)

To the masses: Throw out some other teams that you think would would rival my choice of the wiz. if we were forced to send a single team over to the olympic games....  you can add one other american player to the team....

and with that i would choose Dwight Howard...

Yo! This represents the view of the user who wrote the FanPost, and not the entire Bullets Forever community. We're a place of many opinions, not just one.

Where's the link?

Gotta have it. It takes like two seconds. That way, we know the context of what you are saying.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

I mean, I'm not deleting the post or anything

But it’s annoying to not know what article you speak of.

I don’t want to sound like a hardass, but linking is part of the game.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

Existing Team

Obviously, sending an existing NBA team would eliminate almost all of the issues USA Basketball has been facing.. It would need to be a team that does not have a lot of foreign players (Mavericks, Suns, etc…)

If you send an existing NBA team, they already have set plays that they’ve been running for years, each player knows their role, and, more importantly they know how to play with each other.

You could even choose a team not in the Playoffs… perhaps the BEST team not to make the playoffs. That way, the team could start International competition right after the regular season.

There may be some obstacles to overcome (Free Agents, making a long season even longer) – but it might be a better solution.

Good Idea, But...

You forgot one thing. Yes, a pre-existing team would probably stand a better chance of winning gold next time around (I felt the 4th quarter against Spain in the Gold Medal Game was a little too close for comfort). But what about when the Olympics are over? Traditionally, players who compete in the Olympics suffer from burn-out during the following season. Would any franchise allow that to happen to their entire team? I doubt it.

good point

no owner or gm would allow this. for a long time, i wished we would go back to sending college players, but collangelo has turned the program around. requiring 3 year commitments has made it more like a college program and brought the team much closer in makeup to its competition in terms of cohesiveness and familiarity. its also generated college-like enthusiasm from the players, most of whom seem like theyre already looking forward to playing in 2012. now, about that coach…
