Trade proposal - Vince Carter
Wizards get:
Vince Carter
NJ gets:
Darius Songaila, Deshawn Stevenson and Etan Thomas
Why Washington does this deal:
They get an established 20point scorer. He averaged 21 points, 5 assists, and 6 rebounds per game. When motivated, Vince Carter is one of the best Shooting Guards in the game. With 4 legitimate big time scorers, there will be fewer games where the Wizards go flat Offensively. Salary wise, the Wizards take on a couple of extra years, but the Cap situation would stay the same, even in the out years.
Why NJ does this deal:
They get Vince Carter's bloated salary off the books so they can go after LeBron James in 2010.

That hurts our depth
And I would never want that ‘me-first’ team-quitting S.O.B. on my team

normally no
but i think teaming up with AJ would change a lot of Vince’s Princessian ways. the only depth we’re really losing is Songalia imo. Vince is obviously better then DeShawn and we played the entire year without Etan, so that isn’t a big loss

I thought the goal was winning a championship....
As crazy as it sounds, If we replace one of our toughest players, Deshawn, who is an all out warrior who plays hurt, with Vince “Cup Cake” Carter, who misses a month for a hangnail, we take a step back. This team has enough scoring, we need toughness and defense, two things that VC is severely lacking. Not to mention heart. Also, we have a great locker room now, do we really want to bring a heartless princess in the mix? How can that be a good influence on our young guys?

On the flip side
It would be great to pawn off Etan’s contract

vehemently against
VC. I despise him more than any other player i’ve ever watched. He is everything that’s wrong with the nba. He’s a little punk. I would pull a tonya harding if this ever happened. Thankfully it wont.

Not a fan either -
He is soft, and basically went through the motions without really trying his last year in Toronto. Lack of effort is unacceptable to me. I also remember him showboating at the Olympics which I really disliked. Have some damn class. We don’t need him here.

I don't see NJ doing this
When two of those contracts extend past 2010. They turned down a Carter-for-Wally Szczerbiak’s expiring contract on draft day.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

Ahhhhh....NO!!!
There are only so many balls and only so many shots in a game. Plus Wizards already have a problem getting the big 3 to play defense and this guy could not spell defense if you spot him the defens. And where does he play? He sure as heck can’t play in the same backcourt as Gil. Forget this one.

VC Could Play in the Same Backcourt
Remember, Arenas complimented Hughes very well, and Hughes was a 20+ ppg scorer also. But your other points are very valid. This would be a bad move for us.

Thankfully, NJ Would Not Do This
As much as they want to dump big contracts, the Nets still believe they can get some value for VC, other than just a collection of spare parts that this trade represents. Even if the Nets would want to do it, I still wouldn’t like it because as others have said, we need more toughness and defense. With a healthy Arenas, scoring won’t be a problem.
