Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Atlanta Journal Constitution: Hawks sign Maurice Evans

The contract is 3 years and 7.5 million, which is a little more than Golden State was prepared to give him.

Hmmm

I’m a big fan of Kelenna Azubuike, and I like Evans too, but it seems odd to me that they both got so much more money than Matt Barnes. Several of the other cats we discussed as our backup 3 (Tony Allen f’rinstance) also got a lot better cheddar. What’s wrong with Matt B?

Guys

Barnes chose the situation over the cash. He could have gotten a bit more from someone. Instead he took over a million to play with the Phoenix Suns. That’s an indication of how the Suns are perceived by players around the league. Its also the value of playing with a PG like Nash and a C like Shaq.

For Evans this is his last best shot at a payday. He has to take the most money regardless of where its coming from. In this case he took the Hawks cash. He should also see plenty of time in their rotation.

Meanwhile, we have ‘been in contact’ with Devin Brown’s people but are not listed with the top few teams interested in him. The other side of waiting out the market is that there isn’t much left to choose from after other teams get theirs.

I'd pass

I don’t dislike Devin Brown as a player, but I don’t see him being able to make the team any better than it is without him.

I

Its not just about him, its also how good Caron could be if he didn’t have to play almost the entire game.
