The Nets have a list of about 20 names, mainly wings, and near the top is Roger Mason, a 6-foot-5 guard who averaged 8.0 points with Washington last season, when he made a minimum $770,610. Figure he'll command in the $2.5 million range.

New York Post. Considering the source, take this for what you will.

$2.5 Million?

2.5 Million !

If that’s his actual market value – the Wizards should just pony up and re-sign him !!

I was expecting someone to offer a good chunk of the MLE ($3.5 – $4.5 Million)....

I don't know if that is his market value

but I figured he was going to ask and get 2.5 to 3.5 million a year on a 4 year contract. If Wizard are able to sign Arenas, Jamison and Mason, EG gets executive of the year right now in my book!

Why?

That’s the same three players they’ve had for the last two seasons. I definitely agree with bringing Jamison back, and I am coming around on Arenas, but Roger is just not needed on this team anymore. He’s great when you’ve got some injuries and need somebody to step up and score, but he also takes minutes away from Nick Young and doesn’t give us help behind Caron at SF, where we really need it. Roger can help another team a lot more than he can help us. I say let him walk and bring in a wingman. If not James Posey, than someone like him.

So you bring in Posey to take mins from McGuire?

You can never have too many shooters in this league and Mason is a great one. He has expanded his game and I have a feeling the big 3 will push for the team to resign him. I feel Wizards need a big that enforces and can score inside. But no FA fits that bill so I am hoping for trade or maybe for the first time ever, Ethan and the rest of the team avoid injuries this year.

Not quite

If that figure is being mentioned by a “journalist” after speaking with a league source then that is indicative of the team’s first offer, or what they’d like to pay. Thee numbers don’t get into print by accident. His market value will be closer to 3, possibly over 3 if he can get teams bidding.

The Suns and Spurs are both interested in Jarvis Hayes. I guess they figure he comes cheaper than Roger. No other reason to want Jarvis over him.
