Our friends over at the Cleveland-related blog, Waiting For Next Year, have come across the story of Branson Wright, former Cavs beat writer for the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Evidently, the beat writer for the Washington Times could not make it to the Wiz-Cavs game in Cleveland back on February 22nd....you know, the game the Wiz blew against a depleted Cleveland team fresh off a blockbuster trade.

With the Times beat writer absent, (I assume it was Mike Jones...he did start in mid-season, but it was at the end of January), Mr. Wright stepped in to earn some extra dough and write the game story for the Washington Times....under the pen name B.R. Wright. A check of the Wash. Times link on the BF game recap comes up empty.

Whether you consider this intriguing or much ado about nothing......Cleveland does have a traitor in their midst, and he has paid the price with his job.

Wow

The story is amusing and gossipy, but I can’t help but feel for the guy a little bit too. I wonder if the Cleveland Plain Dealer pays reporters adequately. The Wash Times probably paid him 50 bucks for the freelance article. It’s tough being a reporter for a newspaper these days, unless you’re Ivan Carter or Ric Bucher.
