James Posey remains the most coveted unrestricted free agent still on the market and New Orleans is being increasingly described as perhaps the biggest threat to Boston keeping him...
Washington is highly interested as well, but the Wizards have to find a way to shed a salary or two to have the financial flexibility to make a representative bid.
Nothing unexpected, but it's nice to know that Ernie at least wants him, even if we probably aren't (and really, probably shouldn't) get him.

I think the guy is vastly overrated
He is a hot topic based on what he did against the Lakers. I hope the Wizards take a pass and look more towards Barnes on a multi year deal.

I respectfully disagree
I think he’s a solid MLE guy (i.e. average in the league) and is only marginally over-rated. The championship series will get him $1-2MM a year more than he likely deserves.

Yes, you stated what I believe better than I did
He is a 6th to 8th bench player , but it seems the attitude on the board is that he will make a great difference in the Wizards season if they sign HIM and I am just not feeling that.

I sense a lot of people
Who don’t want Posey here. Once again, I think opinion is a lot more divided than you think.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

None of the guys you mentioned can shoot the 3 as efficiently as Posey. Posey is Maguire with an advanced skill level defensively, but not the athlete Dom is Maguire could do worse than to pattern his game after Posey.
None of the guys you mention did anything in the playoffs. That’s where Posey pays his biggest dividends.

This is what I don't like about signing Posey
To clear enough space under the tax to sign him, we have to trade one of our bloated mid-level contracts. We’d basically have to dump someone like Darius Songaila for absolutely nothing, only to sign a slightly better player to another long, bloated mid-level contract. Doesn’t that defeat the purpose then? The point is to avoid these full MLE-type deals that kill our cap flexibility down the road. Now that Gilbert and Antawn have new long-term deals, it’s even more important to avoid these types of contracts.
Considering where our team is at, I’d rather have Songaila for the next three years than Posey for two million dollars more for the next five years.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

That's pretty much it.
I would love Posey at about $4 mil per year for 2 or 3 years, but that’s impossible. He’ll probably land around a $20-25+ million 4 or 5 year deal and he’s not worth that at his age unless you have lots of cap flexibility or just need that one more piece to push you over the top next year. We don’t have the cap room and we all know damn well we ain’t taking over the Eastern Conference in 2009.
Getting buckets since 2003.

Well
There ya go. Looks like all of our “adding a piece to compete for a championship” is just blog hype. We’re gonna have to go with what we have. Let’s hope the rookies step up in their second year. If they did, we wouldn’t have to worry about adding free agents.
