The Tradeables
While we wait for the Posey chip to fall I'm wondering about who Ernie would target in a trade. THinking in terms of a 2/3 who can defend and knock down and open jump shot.
Trent Hassell, John Salmons, Hakim Warrick, Jared Jeffries, Thabo Sefolosha, and Des Mason are my shortlist. Salmons makes too much for too long though. Warrick is more of a 3/4 than 2/3 and doens't add anything from 3. Hassell contributed to good playoff teams before Minnesota pulled the plug.
Jeffries had a horrid year in NY. Ernie was right not to match Isaiah's full MLE offer. Yet somehow here I am pondering an Etan for Jeffries deal that would save NY 6Mil in 2010.
Thabo Sefolosha is more of a 2 than a 3. He's the cheapest option, which makes him valuable to his own team and less likely to get moved in the guard shuffle in Chicago.
Mason is available. He isn't going to see much time in Milwaukee behind Richard Jefferson, Jow Alexander and Mbah a Moute.
Who else?

Has the Barnes domino fell yet?
Or do all the indicators go against the Wiz signing anyone else after Dee Brown?

I think it would be a bad idea to trade Etan now
because of when his deal expires. Many teams will be trying to get in on multiple superstar sweepstakes, and with two large deals expiring, we could get alot of talent in trades next year.
Yeah
Etan’s expiring contract will be worth MUCH more next year….and will fetch a better deal
Unless there’s a team out there that really needs a back-up Center, AND wants the contract to expire in 2010…. AND has an attractive piece in return (Plus a draft pick), I don’t see Ernie moving Etan this year.
However, I am intrigued by your Jeffries suggestion. Jarred can certainly play defense on the perimeter (a Wizards weakness)... He has always given LeBron James trouble. His contract only goes one year more than Etan’s. He fills a definate need because he can play both the 2 and the 3 (and 4 or 5 in an emergency)...so he could potentially back up Caron… There would be no learning curve, he’s played in Eddie’s version of the Princeton before. He won’t disrupt the chemistry (he is well liked by the other players)..
Just tell him not to shoot the ball… !!!
There’s a lot more plusses than minuses with that trade (Thomas for Jeffries)... AND it works, salary wise… Plus the Wizards would dump an additional $800 K of salary.
Hmmmmmmmm…..
The more I think about it, the more sense it makes
The only thing holding me back would be I have no idea how much an expiring mid level deal is going to be worth next year. In reality it’s worth 10-11 million because it could also be paired up with AD’s expiring deal… but BTH is going to have an extremely high trade value next year, assuming he doesn’t digress. Those 3 expiring contracts are huge chips, or can create the ultimate single chip (you know, the kind that folds)

Well, NY needs to shed salary
by ‘10. So maybe they go for it. J.J. has been a major disappointment in NY. We would be buying low on him, and it would help this season. But we have two large contracts off the book next year in AD’s and the Poets. That is extremely valuable with who is becoming available. If it was just the Poet’s contract I would do it. But the fact that we can offer two large ones increase the combined value as opposed to the individual.
Um, no thank you
Jerrod Jeffries? I had to read this thread twice to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating. We make a smart move to let him walk and then try to get him back for the higher salary? I’d rather have Etan Thomas, and that’s not saying much.
Fact is, all of the youngsters are tradeable
You have to give something to get something. Package the beanpoles for a vet.
I don't see the point in trading for one of these guys
When we have room under the tax to sign a similar player and not give anybody up.
I do like Salmons a lot though. It’d be cool to somehow get him.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
Salmons
Remember when Salmons put up 29 in April when he started in place of Artest?
That would be nice to have on the team, just a couple of times.
If only we could trade Taser for one day and have him put up 30 on us off their bench before we got him back...
