Around SBN: Can Tebow Say No To Anything?

It's too early to say I told you so

But,

Arthur stood out in his pro debut, scoring 18 points on 9-for-12 shooting.

Something tells me McGee won't come close to 18 points in one game until maybe NEXT year's summer league. Oh well. Oh, and isn't that Chalmers kid doing alright? Dee Brown is a decent signing, but comeon!

I'm happy that we kept Gil and AJ, but EG gets a C- for the rest of the offseason so far. (I know, plenty of room under the cap to make one more move. I'm just evaluating things as I see them right now.)

This represents the view of the user who wrote the FanPost, and not the entire Bullets Forever community. We're a place of many opinions, not just one.

I’d say they had one of the worst drafts out of anyone. I hated the first pick but I thought they made up for it when they got Walker late in the second round. I know they needed the cash considerations but this guy was projected to be a lottery pick until he hurt himself and there is no doubt that if healthy, he can be very good.

You’re kidding right?

Why should I be kidding? Chad Ford agrees it was a sweet pickup for the Celtics

So if he said it, it must be true...

I was annoyed with the selling of the pick at the time, but why invest another 800,000 in another Dominic McGuire? Now, we have more room under the tax. There’d be no Dee Brown if we kept Walker.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

wasn't

Wasn’t talking to you. I was talking to the guy patting himself on the back because a player he likes did well in a summer league game.

I’ll agree with you that getting Dee Brown was pretty important after Roger Mason Jr. left but the thing with Walker is that he’s an absolute steal in the second round in my opinion. As I said earlier, he was projected to be in the lottery until his injury and theres very little risk in keeping him. Hes freakishly athletic and he competes really hard. I think he would have been great a couple years down the road if not immediately as a backup to Caron if he could stay healthy. You might say it doesn’t make sense for the Wizards to pick for potential when they’re trying to compete now but they obviously didnt take that philosophy when they picked Javale Mcgee.

Except

You do realize that Walker had ANOTHER procedure done on his knee just after the draft, right?

Walker's been hanging around on his high school reputation

His freshman year at K State was pretty underwhelming. Despite playing with Michael Beasley, Walker used a ton of possessions and wasn’t particularly efficient with them. He has no shot, struggles with foul trouble, and is coming off two knee surgeries. Tell me what there is to like about him.

Yeah, of course. Its still basically a no risk situation…

Bad draft, agreed

JaVale is redundant. Sorry, but he is. Still doesn’t matter though. A healthy big three is the only thing that will get us closer to a championship. So I’ll go with the philosophy that Ernie didn’t care much about this draft for short-term needs. I do have concerns about all the young guys except Nick Young, though. They are all coming along very slowly. All of that said, picking up a veteran banger who can hit some threes is what we need. A guy like CDR would have been a nice pickup to get a Big Baby or Perkins complementary player.

Well.....

For one, it’s waaaaay too early to grade the draft. Common sense should dictate that judgment should come down the road.

Think about it, what do we really know about anything now?

Sure, I was a little miffed at the McGee pick….would have liked it to be more “win now.”

And summer league….well, let’s not get caught up in the numbers.

Well, everyone knows that Arthur should have gone higher than he did. He was an excellent player and I think he has a bright future ahead of him. That being said, you can’t fault the Wizards for not picking him because nearly everyone let him slip after the “kidney” (I believe it was) problems. It was stupid and I’m sure you’ll see a lot of teams feel like they missed out but what can you do?

Get those Hall of Fame awards ready!!!

Anybody that score 18 points in a SUMMER LEAGUE GAME will not only be ROY but will vault straight to the Basketball HOF. Man did EG really screw up!!!

Lottery

Walker WAS projected as a potential lottery pick a while back by a couple different sources, as I remember. But it was before this season so there wasn’t a huge body of work to evaluate.

I would have liked to bring him into summer league to see what he did, but that post-draft knee surgery is no good.

If only we could trade Taser for one day and have him put up 30 on us off their bench before we got him back...

Really?

That seems hard to believe, considering he was coming off the first knee surgery.

In any case

Its been proven to be wildly inaccurate. Given that, I expect people would stop leading with it, though I’ve been wrong before. I just don’t see why being projected into the lottery by a fan site means anything at all.

If I remember correctly...

I saw Bill Walker project as a lottery pick when he was a sophmore and junior in high school. This was when he was O.J. Mayo’s running mate and was being compared to a young VC. Walker lost that status after his first knee surgery and dropped to second rounder /undrafted after his underwhelming first year at KSU. This past year he raised his status to borderline first/second rounder. I don’t think you can put much worth in draft projections for 15 and 16 year olds, especially now, with a year after high school to be exposed before the draft.

All I can say is that Chad Ford likes Walker and Chad Ford knows best.

He does?

And he knows best? News to me.
