Gil to sign for less then $111 Million?

I heard this rumor on a Baltimore radio station by a so called "nba expert" so take it for what its worth.  They said Gil has left open the possibility to sign for less then $111 million if there is a player out there who Ernie and Gil feel can help them contend.  If a difference maker becomes available but would cost the full MLE, rumor is Gil would take even less to make it work under the luxury tax.

I understand this is most likely BS, but it is an interesting scenario.  I for one, see an outside chance of this being true.  It's Gilbert, who knows?

This represents the view of the user who wrote the FanPost, and not the entire Bullets Forever community. We're a place of many opinions, not just one.

If it is a real possibility...

Damn right.

The Washington Wizards: providing career scoring nights for unknown opposing bench players since 2004.

How about Childress?

I like the fro. Would fit in characterwise, that’s for sure.

But for someone like Childress

They would’ve have to go more than the MLE wouldn’t they to keep Atlanta from matching (I thought Childress was restricted)?

Yeah, probably

And we can’t offer more than the MLE because we’re over the cap. If we offer the MLE, Atlanta can easily match it.

Childress is probably a pipe dream no matter what.

If only

I agree with Pradamaster, I can’t see how Atlanta would not match that. Although it would never hurt to try. Maybe the wait to see next year’s numbers and Gil’s trip to China are blessings in disguise if Ernie is able to put a player like that on the table with a smaller contract for 0 to consider

Yeah - but

At the very least – they would force Atlanta to use up more of their Cap and Luxury Tax space…. Always a good thing to do to a Conference rival.

I mean, not really

Assuming Atlanta would pay the mid-level for Childress anyway (they should unless they’re really cheap or stupid), we wouldn’t be jacking his price up at all. We’d just give them an excuse to get on their acts and actually sign the guy for what he’s worth.
