The Utah Jazz will not match an offer sheet the Washington Wizards have extended to restricted free agent point guard Dee Brown, according to multiple league sources familiar with the situation.

Ivan says Utah isn't going to match our offer to Dee, so go ahead and print up those Dee Brown jerseys! Just make sure you don't give him the number 5, because that will bring back bad memories.

Classy

The Jazz could have waited on this but they acted quickly and because they did Dee will get some run with the summer league team.

Can someone

Explain to me what the hell a “partially guaranteed” contract is?

Getting buckets since 2003.

My best guess

He probably gets a certain amount no matter what, but if he makes the team, he makes the entire salary.

I have no idea how that works under the cap though. Perhaps Jheiser3 knows.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

Don't know for certain, but

Perhaps only the 1st year is guaranteed, with a team option for the second year.
Some guarantees are for a partial amount of the player’s salary, and the amount can change on specified dates.
Regardless, on January 10 the base salary in all contracts becomes guaranteed for the remainder of that season.

Dee Brown is a 1-year veteran. As such the minimum salary is $711,517

So here are some scenarios:

Most likely: Washington’s offer is for a two year contract, starting at $711,517 with the first year guaranteed and the team holding an option for the second year. Second year salary probably has an 8% or 10.5% raise.

Next most likely: Washington’s offer is for a two year contract, starting at $711,517 with the first year guaranteed IF he makes the squad out of Training Camp – and the team holding an option for the second year, etc….

I think you can only give Larry Bird exceptions

the 10.5% max raise.

He'll get the minimum in Year 2

The 2009-2010 minimum for a third year player is $825,497.

Numero Cinco

We especially don’t want all those jerks with Wizards Kwame Brown jerseys to feel that they can break them out again. Shoulda burned them things a long time ago.
