DAVIS TO THE CLIPPERS... WHAT HAPPENS TO LIVINGSTON??
I'm a big fan of Livingston's game. With him coming off the devastating knee injuries he's suffered, no one knows whether he'll be able to make it back... I don't know if the Clippers even had any intention of making a qualifying offer to him before signing Davis, but now I'd figure there's no way he goes back. Does anyone else think he'd be worth the risk in using whatever cap room is left available after Gil signs?
The kid, when healthy, is a puuuurre point guard and I think he's the type of addition that would make EVERYBODY better, just by his vision. Nick Young and Blatche would benefit the greatest imo.
I haven't been paying close attention this offseason, but what are your thoughts on the feasibility/possibility?

Clippers declined the qualifying offer before signing Davis
Link. That was the only way they could have enough room to sign Davis.
I’d do it for the minimum, but that’s about it. Maybe the low-level exception (around 2 million) as a replacement for Mason, but I doubt we’d have much to spend.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

Might as well take a risk and see if he can play
He’s still very young, I think like 22 years old

And it's all
It's all in my hands
And its all up the walls
Well the stale chips were up and the hopes stakes were down

In a heartbeat
I’d do it in a heartbeat. I mean for as little as we could get him for, he could produce a large return. And plus whats one more experiement for the wizards, does EG think he’s teaching a chem lab? And while this unfortunately doesnt seem to qualify for the NBA players as much, Im still gonna throw it out there.
remember chris carpenter of the stl cardinals?
the first year they signed him from toronto he didnt pitch a game, but the cards paid him and waited. well the next year carpenter came off the IR and won the cy young, then two years later lead them to the world series winning 2-3 games in that final series. His contract was up and he was the hottest pitcher in the game, guess what he did. He signed a contract well under his market value at the time, showing loyalty and appreciation to the card org. for their support in him at his worst time.
This situation isnt the same, b/c i hope livingston can play this year but if he does come back from this injurry as good as ever, we could get a great player that may sign in the future for a bunch less

Agreed
If, and that’s a big IF, Livingston is cleared to play basketball and his injury is fully 100% healed, he may be worth a risk…
Before the injury, he was a decent defender… although the type of knee injury he had will certainly impact his lateral quickness, especially to the one side. He never was much of a shooter… posting pretty dismal true shooting percentages for a PG (mostly to a lack of a 3-point shot)
Unfortunately, IF he’s healthy, there’s some team out there that will offer him most of the Mid-Level exception – and he’ll be priced out of the Wizards reach.

I would say no thank you
Most of us Wizards fans seem to be in a win now mode…...so why would we sign an iffy project?
Do the Wizards really have the time to dedicate to his development/recovery?
Sure it’d be nice to have a blue chipper who might pan out, but I’d rather lean on someone who can provide more dependable contributions off the bench.
I’d MUCH rather have Roger Mason Jr. back.
For Livingston’s sake, he’d be better on a team in rebuilding mode anyway.

the choice
I think you’ve nailed the choice perfectly. The wizards don’t have room on the roster for a player who might not be healthy enough to play. Not with Gil rehabbing already. If they bring in a vet minimum PG he has to be ready. Plus, would Livingston really turn his rehab over to our training staff? Would he want to be 3rd string?
Livingston could be incredible eventually. he just doesn’t fit this team. I’d rather target combo guards for this spot anyway, someone who could play some point but also come in and score if need be.

Ugh
how pathetic is it that our training staff’s incompetence is the thing that rules out a player.
