Is this even allowed to think about?

I've been waiting for the day Joe Dumars would make some moves with all those chips he has in Detroit...  Damn he's a good GM

“I’ll make a significant trade,” Dumars, the Pistons' president of basketball operations, declared. “… "We have a core group of guys here that for the first time in six years I’m letting teams in the league know I’ll do a deal. … I’m open for business.”

Melo is untouchable right?  Thats what I thought.  I knew those rumors about him and Richard Jefferson were ridiculous:

Tayshaun Prince

Rasheed Wallace

for

Carmelo Anthony

Marcus Camby

Both Tayshaun and Melo have 3 years left on their contracts.  It seems like both duos of players would be going to better situations/roles on their teams.

I see Tayshaun stepping it up to 17-18 ppg in an increased offensive role, while giving the Nuggets the defensive stopper they greatly need at SF in the west.   Iverson and Prince would be sick together... but Sheed is the deal maker because he's the low post presence that could push the Nuggets over the top in the west.

Melo joins a team with the defensive intensity that could cover up his liability on that end of the floor (and hey, he might even step it up, too).  It's needless to go into the creativity Melo brings to the Pistons offensive game, but if they had him in this year's conference finals...

Big 3 of Iverson, Prince, and Sheed > Big 2 of A.I. and Melo

Big 3 of Chauncey, Rip, and Melo > Big 3 of Chauncey, Prince, and Sheed

This represents the view of the user who wrote the FanPost, and not the entire Bullets Forever community. We're a place of many opinions, not just one.

I like it

If it went through, would this make Detroit forget about Darko?

Probably not, but they might sleep a little easier.

I think Denver would want something more

If I were the Nuggets, I would shoot for Rodney Stuckey as the add on and let JR Smith walk…..but then again, I doubt that Detroit would do that, so in negotiations, Denver would end up settling for something less….perhaps a draft pick?

Great post by the way.

I think Denver would make them take back Kenyon Martin instead of Camby. That would make Denver awfully old with AI, Camby and Sheed. It would open things up for Kleiza though. Stucky isn’t available and Rip doesn’t answer their need for a long range sharp shooter.

Better yet

Wouldn’t both teams like swapping Chauncey for A.I. straight up better? Pistons would have to throw in a contract or 2, maybe a pick, but this just seems easier.

The whole point of the deal would be for Detroit to Acquire Carmelo, not get even older at PG. Iverson would only stunt Stuckey’s growth.

Makes sense for both teams

Nuggets

IF the Nuggets think that Rasheed is going to be effective for 1 or 2 more years and NeNe can play some decent ball for them. Was a very good defender. But can he still play D? He’s pretty old but his contract expires soon (next season?)

Any team would love to get Tayshaun. Not a superstar but does everything for you, terrific defender, rebounder and fill up buckets. But you also have Linas Kleiza to think about. He is an up and coming 3, who can play a little 4, where does he fit into your plans?

The Nuggets have an overabundance of scoring power but almost no focus on the defensive end. This flaw is accentuated by the lack of a real point guard (steve blake was good for them). Trading away Melo might give this team a new focus, but they really need some solid leadership. The coaching staff needs to instill a winning culture. I think JR Smith has all star potential if his head was in the right place. AI’s+Rasheed’s contract expires soon so that’s a good trading chip. They should look to start over fresh and get rid of their Thugget’s label.

Detroit:
I like this trade if I’m Jeff Dumars, you have a very solid starting lineup.
Chauncy/RIp/Melo/Maxiell/Camby

Carmelo is an amazing scorer, and getting him before his prime is a great pickup. ‘Melo can do it from inside and out. I believe he can play D but can Detriot’s new coach get it out of him?

Jason Maxiell might not be the best PF in the world, but he looks like he’s going to be a solid starter if he needs to step into that role.

Marcus Camby is a legit center and perennial Defensive Player of the Year candidate.

Camby’s contract probably expires soon, and Stuckey will step in for Chauncey. That gives you a solid core to build around, after the Billups era.

Boston coach Doc Rivers said he was surprised by the firing of Saunders.
"I don't understand it," Rivers said. "It makes coaching not fun."

Don’t forget about McDyess starting at the 4 spot.

I like it for Denver because it frees up minutes for Kleiza.
