Around SBN: Nevin Shapiro Vows To Bring Down Miami

If he had his druthers, Beasley said he would prefer to play for the Washington Wizards, the NBA team closest to his hometown of Frederick, Md. But there appears to be no way he will last long enough for the Wizards to take him with their 18th pick in the first round.

Freakin' A

Can’t we make this happen? A birdy tells me the Heat don’t even want him, even though they have to pick him.

Without giving up our big 3… of course.

If Gilbert hadn't already opted out

I’d offer him up, but unfortunately, he can’t be traded.

I’d give up anyone on the roster except for Caron to get Beasley.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

Can't Ernie Do a Sign and Trade With Miami After the Draft?

Ernie can work out the deal with Miami before the draft. Miami takes Beasley with the 2nd pick. In early July, Ernie signs Gil and trades him to Miami for Beasley. Other pieces need to be part of the deal, but why isn’t this a possibility?

I guess so

I haven’t looked it up, but I guess this is a possibility.

Of course, Miami would have to throw in a ton of salary just to match whatever Gilbert would make.

Miami Has a Lot of Free Agents

Beasley would make around $3.5 million as the 2nd pick. Mark Blount would account for another $8.5 million. Throw in somebody like Marcus Banks or Smush Parker and the salaries would match.

I don't think Smush is on the team anymore

That’s a pretty steep price for Gilbert. If Miami really wants to do that, I’d take it.

Why Would This Be Steep for Miami?

Miami would love to get rid of Mark Blount. They really don’t want Beasley, they want a point guard. And whoever else evens out the deal would not be missed at all.

Because as much as Riley seemingly doesn't want to deal with Beasley

I doubt he’d want to deal with Gilbert. Also, how does Gilbert’s game fit with Wade’s?

Probably the Same Way

It fit with Larry Hughes. Wade would still get his shots.

Wade uses far more possessions than Hughes

Plus, the Heat wouldn’t play as fast as the Wizards did in 05

OK, You Got Me

Since Beasley plays PF, what about the same scenario but with Antawn instead of Gil? I’m sure Antawn’s game would mesh with Wade’s. Beasley could start right away. We would just have to convince Gilbert to not leave like he promised if we didn’t sign AJ.

Hmmm

I’m just getting silly now. Nevermind. :)

Or Miami Could Sign and Trade One of Their Free Agents

Hence the previous post’s title.

Yeah, But It's Fun to Talk About

Besides, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Heat made a deal with another team. Why not consider ours?
