Attn: Residents of Indiana, Ohio and Michigan
Residents of the Hoosier State, Great Lakes State, and the Buckeye state, WE NEED YOUR HELP!
You see, 11 years ago team management decided to undergo a name change. We went from the mighty Washington Bullets to the largely underwhelming Washington Wizards. While most fans can understand the reasoning behind the decision, I'd venture to say that most still don't agree with the decision. If you don't believe me, just consider how popular Wes Unseld's throwback jersey is. Besides, there are more offensive team nicknames in D.C.
OK, so you're probably thinking, "What does this have to do with us?" Well, the Padres single A affiliate, the Fort Wayne (IN) Wizards, are entering into a transitional phase for their organization. Next year, they'll be moving into a new stadium and as part of that process they're looking to re-brand themselves with a new nickname.
Currently, the team is inviting residents of Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan to submit suggestions for the team's nickname. Since, you hold the power, we beg of you to fill the ballot box with the only reasonable suggestion:
Hey, if the internet can be used to get Rick Astley played at Shea Stadium, certainly we can use it here to restore some sense of balance to the nicknaming universe.
