You already know this, but it's worth repeating one last time
Congrats to the Celtics on a fine year and championship #17. When it comes to the Celtics-Lakers rivalry, I'd say that I'm more inclined to root for the Lake Show, but throughout these finals I couldn't help but root for this team. There's no doubt that in my mind that this was the best team all season, and they emphatically proved it last night.
The thing that impressed me most about this team was that even though each player had flaws, when they put it all together, the team as a whole was flawless. Sure there were some bumps in the road, but no team was more complete than Boston this year. When you're that complete, you're going to be able to beat teams of all shapes and sizes. Check out their records against each team in the league this season:
- Atlanta: 7-3 (.700)
- Charlotte: 3-1 (.750)
- Chicago: 4-0 (1.000)
- Cleveland: 6-5 (.545)
- Dallas: 2-0 (1.000)
- Denver: 1-1 (.500)
- Detroit: 7-3 (.700)
- Golden State: 1-1 (.500)
- Houston: 2-0 (1.000)
- Indiana: 3-0 (1.000)
- LA Clippers: 2-0 (1.000)
- LA Lakers: 6-2 (.750)
- Memphis: 2-0 (1.000)
- Miami: 4-0 (1.000)
- Milwaukee 4-0 (1.000)
- Minnesota: 2-0 (1.000)
- New Jersey: 4-0 (1.000)
- New Orleans: 1-1 (.500)
- New York: 4-0 (1.000)
- Orlando: 1-2 (.333)
- Philadelphia: 3-1 (.750)
- Phoenix: 1-1 (.500)
- Portland: 2-0 (1.000)
- Sacramento: 2-0 (1.000)
- San Antonio: 2-0 (1.000)
- Seattle: 2-0 (1.000)
- Toronto: 3-1 (.750)
- Utah: 1-1 (.500)
- Washington: 1-3 (.250)
After bringing something like this up, it would easy (and fun) to jump to overzealous conclusions, but I'm going to refrain for everyone's decency. Instead, I'll just echo the words of wise man Kevin Garnett who said "ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!!"

Seeing Tom Thibodeaux in that pic irks me. Ernie was poised to bring in the best “DC” out there and Eddie wouldn’t have it if it meant not having his guy as the lead assistant. Oh what could have been.

Is that really what happenned?
I always bought into the reason Mike Wise described here but maybe I missed something or am being naive.
“Beyond the perceived Eddie vs. Gilbert divide, another relationship was rumored to have soured. Eddie and Ernie, that shotgun marriage of a coach and general manager that had amazingly produced the franchise’s first, consecutive playoff appearances in two decades.
It got to a point where Tom Thibodeaux, the former Houston assistant coach known for his defensive techniques, had agreed to take a job under Jordan. Several days later, he reneged and eventually wound up in Boston.
The reason he backed out, a friend of Thibodeaux’s said, was because the coach was worried he had been brought to Washington to eventually take Jordan’s job. He didn’t want to be viewed as undermining another coach and his staff, and he felt that that’s how it might look if Grunfeld took action during the season to remove Jordan. “
