Folks are asking about Coach Eddie Jordan's status. Here's my read: unless Ernie Grunfeld experienced a major change of heart the last few days, I think he's safe. He's under contract and folks all over the league feel that he and his staff did a great job with an injury-ravaged team this season. I know folks are emotional about this whole thing and want major changes now but take a deep breath and ask yourself a serious question: are any of these coaches who are out there better than Jordan? Another: did any other playoff coach go through what Jordan did this season with the injuries and an ownership that refused to budge on the luxury tax, thus forcing him to consistently practice with seven or eight bodies? I've covered this team for three full seasons now and feel that Eddie did his best work this season. That said, folks are free to disagree.
All good, except there are better coaches out there (Avery, D'Antoni, etc). I'll have more on this another time, but I hope Ernie thinks about it more than this.

Eddie Did Good
I don’t dispute that. What he did was get this team to play at a good level despite adversity. He made the most out of a little. The problem I have with Eddie is that he does a lot better with little than he does with plenty. He can get an undermanned team into the playoffs, and that’s great. But he can’t seem to get a really talented team past the first round, and that’s not so great. The second round of the playoffs appears to be Eddie’s ceiling, and he only hit that ceiling once in four tries. All of us Wizards fans have grown accustomed to failure, so we tend to give Eddie the benefit of low expectations. But I continue to look around the league and see what other teams are doing, and it makes me wish for something more.
I would like to see an NBA championship trophy brought home to Washington once more in my lifetime. Unfortunately, this franchise last did that when I was 9 months old and I wouldn’t have considered myself a Bullets fan then. I don’t want to be 90 when it happens again. This team has some great talent, but we can never depend on them to win when they’re supposed to. Inconsistent play is indicative of not-so-great coaching, IMHO. It’s time that the Wizards got a coach who can get this talent to sustain high-quality play for longer than a couple of games here, a couple of games there.
