Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

On April 27, 2003 the Orlando Magic took a commanding 3-1 series lead thanks to Tracy McGrady's dominant play, overcoming a superior team with his outstanding individual performances.  With the clincher in reach, McGrady boldly proclaimed that the series was over.  As we all now know, that prediction kind of blew up in his face.

On April 27, 2008 the Cleveland Cavaliers took a commanding 3-1 series lead thanks to LeBron James' dominant play, overcoming a superior team with his outstanding individual performances.  With the clincher in reach, this athletic swingman consciously made the decision not to make another bold prediction that could possibly backfire on him.  After all, those who don't know their history are doomed to repeat it.  Right?  Right?

Too bad...

That unlike those Pistons, we don’t have 2 out of the last 3 at home.

also too bad that

LBJ isn’t a perennial 1st round loser – he’s already taken a mediocre groups of guys to the Finals.

Getting buckets since 2003.

Guys...

Pointing out the flaws in my logic isn’t going to help make this come true.

Getting buckets since 2003.

A lesson from a smrt man

Bluto: Over? Did you say “over”? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
Otter: Germans?
Boon: Forget it, he’s rolling.
Bluto: And it ain’t over now. ‘Cause when the goin’ gets tough… the tough get goin’! Who’s with me? Let’s go! [What the fuck happened to the WizardsI used to know? Where’s the spirit? Where’s the guts, huh? “Ooh, we’re afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble.” Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I’m not gonna take this. LeBron, he’s a dead man! Mike Brown, dead! Ilgauskas-
Otter: Dead! Bluto’s right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody’s part.
Bluto: We’re just the guys to do it.
D-Day: Let’s do it.
Bluto: LET’S DO IT!!

Mr. 4th Quarter? Yap, yap, yap

Agent Zero asked exactly what Barkley had said and Haywood relayed the comment. Gil, strutting back to his locker, said “That’s cute. That’s cute. They might have the No. 2 player, but they don’t have the No. 1 end of game, end of period, end of half player. Uh-hu, know what I’m sayin’?”

Haywood said “Oh, we’ve got Kobe in here?”

Sick of Lebron & the Cavs' antics

The one thing that really grates me aside from the missed free-throws, poor rebounding, Gibson & West having shooting a combined 60% from 3 (every dog has it’s day), is Lebrons constant complaining about fouls and the officials responding to it. “I definetely saw DeShawn coming but I didn’t know that he hit me with a closed fist until one of my teammates told me”.... wtf, did anyone else see this crap? First off, the officials only called the flagrant fould b/c of the way Lebron reacted, going after stevenson as though he had tried to end his career. Had lebron just done nothing I would guarantee no flagrant would be called. Not only was it a bad call, but Lebron then has the audacity to claim Deshawn punched him? Umm…. riiiiight. He made clear contact with the ball with an open hand and his forearm brushed lebrons head.
Then in the previous game there was the double Techs called on Haywood and Z after Z clearly fouled him and tried to provoke him while all Haywood did was walk away. No way anything should’ve been called on Brendan , but because both Brown and Lebron incessently complain to the media about the wizards being bullies, they call a T on BTH as well because well… he must’ve done something to provoke Z into provoking him?

I’m sick of officials, sick of Lebron, sick of coach Brown, and fed up with the inability to rebound. Hopefully the wiz can overcome the odds.

Agreed, mostly

DeShawn definitely didn’t punch him. That’s completely ridiculous, and I think it says a lot about LeBron’s character that he’s still complaining about it. Cleveland’s motto all series seems to be to just play the game and forget about everything else, yet here’s LeBron complaining, after a huge series win no less, about some play that happened in the second quarter. Still, it would have and should have been a flagrant 1 no matter LeBron’s reaction.

I’m most annoyed by Mike Brown, to be honest. He started this whole thing with that unbelievable post-game press conference after Game 1 (where he was pounding his fist complaining about the Wizards’ so-called thuggery), and he keeps adding fuel to the fire when he marches across the entire court to get into the face of people like DeShawn. I can’t believe the officials haven’t called him out on that. Brown is the one that has painted the Wizards as the second coming of the Bad Boys Pistons, when we are undersized at both power forward positions and have a center who people have ridden for being too soft. Really? That’s the profile of a team that wants to hurt somebody? Come on now.

The truth is, both teams are playing physically. Cleveland’s just better at masking it than we are. That’s a credit to them, to be fair, but let’s not assume their bull** is fact.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.
