gil's knee rehab

apparent setback: anyone worried?

Star-divide

post is reporting that gil isn't practicing because he's got soreness in his knee. last night he didn't show up to the game to watch from the bench. this worries me. anyone have better information on this? ivan seems to be glossing over this little tidbit.

I wouldn't panic just yet
If he starts missing more practices then sure, it's a problem.  But right now, considering that Ivan barely mentioned it (I actually missed it completely until you mentioned it) my guess is just that it's part of the recovery process.

He practiced today
So I wouldn't worry too much.

okay, that's good but
sounds like EJ isn't overly optimistic:

Ivan to Eddie: "Gilbert practicing today, that's a good sign no?"
Eddie: "For today, it's a good sign. For today."

i'm not sure which will be more interesting: how this plays out over the next three weeks, or how the wiz will do standings-wise over that same timeframe.

let's hope both outcomes are positive ones.

Don't Forget
I read that the normal turnaround for an athlete with microfracture knee surgery is about 6 months.  Gil has worked hard to comeback from this injury, but he's still human and I think that having a little soreness is expected, especially early on.

Overall, I feel much more optimistic about his recovery this time than I did after his last surgery.  His surgeon last year simply cut away the damaged ligament, sewed him back up, and wished for the best.  Microfracture makes more sense to me.  It forces blood into an area that normally doesn't receive much blood, which quickens and improves the healing.

I'm not a doctor, but to me it's logical that you need to have blood flow if real healing is going to occur.  If somebody reading this has been to medical school and thinks I'm full of crap, feel free to call me on this.
