Goddammit

I'm so tired of this crap.

Caron Butler did not practice today and Coach Eddie Jordan said that he "probably" won't play tomorrow night in Cleveland.

"We want to see him through a practice and see how he reacts after a practice," Jordan said. "So, that's going to be a two-day process. From my standpoint, from what I understand, it won't be a decision made overnight. It's going to be a process of him going through a physical process and then a recovery day. And then we'll see where he is on a recovery day."

If nobody else is going to call out the Wizards' training staff, then I think I might have to do it.

The problem I am having -
with the training staff is that they cleared Gilbert to play and he re-injures himself, they cleared Caron to play and he re-injures himself. And that sets us back more than if they would do their job properly and figure out what is wrong with these players, when they are ready to come back and how to prevent some of these injuries. Gilbert isn't even practicing right now so who knows when he comes back. I'm so frustrated right now with this whole team and organization. We need to sign some damn players to 10 day contracts and stop caring about the luxury tax when we can't even field a full team for practice. Would it really cost that much? I'm losing my optimism which is very unusual for me but its been an increasingly frustrating season.

It could be that much...
I'm not sure how many teams are over the cap right now and by how much, but if we sign another 10 day contract it's going to cost us double whatever we agree to with the player b/c of the tax, and then we lose all the money redistributed from the tax.

I'm frustrated too, if this team could just hang around 500 until gil and caron get healthy we could be very dangerous in the playoffs. That is looking less and less likely though as we continue to play worse and tuff juice and zero's dates keep getting pushed back.

Chill guys...
I know these last ten games have been tough to watch, and that this may be a lost season. But they have three promising rookies, a possible replacement for Jamison at the four already should it come down to that, the room to re-sign Arenas (hell, the room to re-sign Jamison), and Butler/Stevenson locked up.  Oh, and their worst contract is a toss-up between Thomas and Songaila, not K-Mart's albatross.  Tell me there aren't 18 GMs in the league that wouldn't trade their situation for that of the Wiz.  Bad as it's been, it could be a LOT worse.

That's why this is so frustrating
If everyone was healthy, we'd be in such good positioning, considering our payroll situation and our nice blending of role players.  Maybe we wouldn't be on the level of Boston or Detroit, but I honestly feel like we'd be the third-best team in the East with all our guys healthy.

Yet instead, we have Gilbert coming back and getting hurt again and Caron's seemingly minor injury becoming a major one.  Last year, there was Songaila's back injury that was supposed to be minor, but instead kept him out for half the year.  Since then, he hasn't even been close to being the same player.

I know I'm overreacting a bit, but it's just so damn annoying to see injuries tear us apart again.

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

I'll see that, and raise you
If Gilbert hadn't gotten hurt, would Caron have had the year he's had?  Would Nick Young have the experience he has?

The first half of the year was such a roller coaster.  "Gilbert's out, we're sunk."  "Caron's better than any of us knew."  "Keeping DeShawn over JCN was a mistake."  "Keeping DeShawn over JCN was a masterstroke."

As hard as it is to live with now, this year may mean more to the future of the team than a third place finish in a "sacrificial lamb" year would.

Back on topic, does anyone else remember Gilbert saying he felt that his first surgery was botched?

It's also frustrating because of last year -
we had the best record in the eastern conference at one point and the season had so much potential and then Caron and Gilbert go down. This season also held so much promise when we were beating the likes of Boston and Dallas. I thought when Gilbert comes back we'll be the one of the best teams in the league not just the east. I'm impatient - I want to know what this team actually looks like with the big three playing because I have no idea given the way Caron and Antawn have developed. I also think we can talk about the promise of the future and the development of the young guys but we don't even know if Gilbert and Antawn will be here next year or what the make-up of the team will be so I concentrate on the here and now. Unfortunately I care way too much about this darn team, I go to too many games and see how people aren't coming to games because Gilbert isn't playing and then you add in the in game let downs and lack of effort some nights and its easy to get upset about the little things.

Why all the talk about the future?
I mean, we're not a rebuilding team, we have the players to get it done now. Of course it's nice that unlike the suns, spurs, mavs, celtics, etc we have a very young squad and our future is bright. But if not for these injuries our present would be incredibly bright as well.

the talent is here
Even without Gilbert and Caron, we should have busted up the Knicks.  It's time for the Andrays of the world to STEP UP.  Andray has uber talent but he also plays uber lazy.  Some of these guys look like the don't want to sweat too much.  I'm being tough on Andray but with him its all in his head.  Somebody's gotta tell the young man to step up and be a man's man.  Get nasty.  Take over a game for once.  You're in your 3rd year now, you just got PAID big $ so STEP IT UP.

Someone has to do it.
It kills me to call out a fellow Hawkeye, but his name is Eric Waters.

I would like to get him on record to explain what is going on with all of the Wizards injured players and their seemingly, prolonged recovery time.

Plus, these are the stars we are talking about too.

I still feel the Cavs will beat the Wiz tonight with only 7 players.

What? They don't have TV in the D-League? Don't watch me, watch TV.
