This should make the newest member of Bullets Forever (me) also the least popular
Hi, I'm visiting from Sactown Royalty, the Sacramento Kings SB Nation blog. As a fan of the second-losingest squad in the NBA, I've been thinking a lot about the future of my team. I've decided that Caron Butler would be perfect for the Kings. Obviously there are about 29 teams in the league that could use Butler, but I think that he would be a perfect fit in Sacramento for reasons with which I won't bore you.
I imagine that the Wiz's braintrust counts Butler as a phenomenal value at appx $10M, but I wonder if anyone here can (as unpleasant as it might be for you) envision any scenarios resulting in Butler being moved. For instance, isn't it pretty likely that you guys will be over the cap next season? And would your owner stand for being over the cap if his team remained in the cellar (a big if, I know)? What about dumping big contracts for the 2010 free-agent bonanza, ie. the Summer of LeBron? Is Caron tired of Gilbert or vice versa?
I'm not trying to wish bad juju on your team, just looking for any bleak ray of hope for the Kings getting a great player via trade. Since the Kings will have many of the chips that can net big-time players like Butler (expiring contracts, young talent, potentially high draft picks) in 2009, I'm hoping you all don't think he's untouchable. Look forward to knowing your thoughts.
This represents the view of the user who wrote the FanPost, and not the entire Bullets Forever community. We're a place of many opinions, not just one.

Nope
Caron and Gilbert get along well, Caron likes the squad, the fans love the guy… he’s untouchable. If he gets traded, the fans will riot.
Also, we’ve got no one coming up behind him (Dominic McGuire is turning into a decent defensive stopper, but isn’t going to be a starter. We’re weak at SF) and with Gil and Antawn’s contracts, there’s no chance we’ll be a player in the 2010 sweepstakes.
Welcome to the site. Since you were polite, we won’t haze you.
(…yet…)

Agree with the first two posts
I can’t see a good reason to dump Caron (even for talent). He should be a part of any possible plan we have going forward. I do like that Spencer Hawes kid though…
Getting buckets since 2003.

Yeah
I think others have covered it, but I’ve vehemently argued that rebuilding by way of the 2010 free agent class is not a good strategy for us. We have enough of a foundation to keep Arenas and Butler and tinker by adding a disgruntled star from a team looking to rebuild, along with our lottery pick.
If we just go for cap room, we’re going to get spurned. Why would the top free agents choose us over New York and the like?
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

On another note...
I could go back to passionately hating the Knicks. I’ve grown weary of being apathetic towards them.

I could see this happening with Wade and LeBron
But Bosh staying in Canada seems like a stretch to me.

Ha
It’s the nation’s capital, you already have 2.5 All-Stars and YOU worry about attracting free agents? Man, rooting for the Kings is hard.
