Devin Harris vs. AJ - What if?
The AJ trade scenarios got me thinking...and it certainly has bubbled up now.

Looking back, a Harris / Arenas tandem would certainly be a potent combo. I like AJ but is your typical tweener and jacks up too many 3s for my taste.
"A Devin Harris-powered Wizards could have a completely different consistency to them. It would free up Arenas to play more off the ball, if he ever gets healthy, and give the team the one thing it most sorely needs -- a ball distributer."

It is important to note, however
That it wasn’t just a straight swap. We got out of Jerry Stackhouse’s contract and attitude, as well as Christian Laettner’s.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

Also like to point out
Devin Harris is more of a “shoot first” Point Guard – Like Arenas.
So why would you call Devin Harris a “ball distributor”?
Arenas averages around 6 assists per game – Devin Harris is averaging around 6 assists per game…. Their games are similar, in that they both can penetrate and finish – except Arenas takes (and makes) more 3-pointers.
The only other big difference is that Arenas has been a volume scorer since he arrived in Washington. Until this year, Harris was only averaging 10, 14 and 15 points per game the last 3 years… This year, he’s averaging almost 25, but it’s only been 14 games!
So if Devin Harris can be considered a “ball distributor” – then Arenas can also be considered a “ball distributor”….. and since they have similar games – I don’t think the two together would work.

The thing is, though
Are we talking about Jamison instead of Harris, or Jamison instead of the fifth pick? I doubt we would have picked Harris with Arenas and Hughes already on board.
It’s more like Harris instead of Josh Childress, Luol Deng or Andre Iguodala.

Harris...
I agree, I don’t think Harris is a prolific ball distributor but he certainly is one and moreso than anybody on the roster right now. The quote was from the blog.
Harris / Arenas would have been great.

Harris as a rookie
My guess is that Harris would have been given very few minutes during his first 2 years. Gil was scoring more than 25 a game and loving his 42 minutes each night. So I’m thinking that when his rookie contract was up, Harris would have left for somewhere where he could get more minutes (much like Steve Blake).
