Open Thread: Regular season game 15 at New Jersey Nets

Washington @ New Jersey

T1_marbury2_medium

I have a paper to write tonight, so no long preview from me.  Do check out the post below this though.  I spent way too much time thinking about it.

I still don't get why New Jersey is so decent this year, but I haven't seen them much since opening day.  Perhaps it'll become clear tonight.

This is an open thread, so discuss how we'd be if we kept Devin Harris instead of trading him for Antawn Jamison here.

I also have a paper to write tonight

So I’ll be in and out, but I’m not expecting a whole lot tonight. The Nets have played very well as of late and the Wizards have never done well in New Jersey for whatever reason.

Remember that I said this after the Wizards win.

We never win in the NY Metro area

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

Mr. Yi!

Have you heard of JaVale McGee?

DeShawn Stevenson hitting a 3

is good cause for the opposing team to call timeout

Some teams you just don't like

I never liked the Mavs and I am having some serious schaudenfraude in seeing what kind of player Devin Harris has become, right along with the Mavs making a terible basketball trade last year. Of course, Mr. Harris could have been with us…

Stevenson

looks like he might be falling to the side a little bit on his threes. I never really paid attention to his form before, but does he always do that? Could that be what the problem is this year?

by Jon L on Dec 2, 2008 8:02 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

That damn doubling.

If Blatche and whomever else it was didn’t have to double, Hayes wouldn’t have been so wide open.

Same here

Though I like their red alternates more. OHHHHHHHHHHHHH YEAH!.

Poor Darius

Two inches taller and he would’ve had that rebound. Instead, he hits the floor.

by Jon L on Dec 2, 2008 8:16 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Kind of like his jumpshot

Seriously though, he’s rebounding and playing pretty good defense. Good work, McGuire…

5/10 from the arc is great

but I know/fear it’s unsustainable.

Does anyone know -

how I can watch the game? My cable is acting up and it’s blacked out on league pass. I haven’t watched a wizards game since thursday and I’m having withdrawal. Maybe there is some illegal site out there?

Heat check!

But given the way that DeShawn has been shooting before tonight, I’m glad to see that he’s gotten hot enough to throw up a heat check.

Well played, Chris Miller.

Not only has this last minute been ugly

I can’t imagine the Wizards can win if this pace is sustained. Slow it down, fellas.

Anyone want to recap this one?

My LP’s blacked out, my paper is nowhere near done and I can’t find anywhere to watch this baby. Any takers?

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

well i would

But Caron just went down. Took a nasty shot to the inside of his knee from a driving Bobby Simmons – knee on knee contact. He’s on the ground in obvious pain… Looks like his foot stayed planted while his knee twisted out from the collision.

Getting buckets since 2003.

Staying in the game.

That’s great to see.

Okay.

Here’s a quick summary:

No 3 point D by either team, but NJ missing a few freebies. That/s the difference so far.
McGee looking good on Offense.
Devon Harris is really good – driving by everybody, would be the best player on the floor if not for an inspired effort by Caron so far both getting his own shot and setting up teammates.
Wiz offense has great ball movement – hard to tell if it’s a conscious effort or if NJ just doesn’t have much of a defensive presence.

Getting buckets since 2003.

no no no

If only we could trade Taser for one day and have him put up 30 on us off their bench before we got him back...

Looks like hes ok

for a minute there i thought it was time for jamison to make up an injury for the season

Both teams

are playing a little out of control right now, and somehow it hasn’t hurt the Wizards yet.

yeah crazy deshawn

has a much better +/- than regular deshawn. he’s streaky, but was in just an unsustainably bad slump

whom

did Buck say suggested to DeShawn that his struggles have been a result of shaving the beard?

In the pregame, Haywood compared him to Samson. It was pretty good.

My God

I think DeShawn’s angry that I wrote he needed to be traded.

(Okay, sorry, that’s a little egotistical).

Minutes Watch

Butler played 37 and a half minutes
Jamison played 31 minutes
Stevenson played 28 minutes
Songaila played 26 and a half minutes
Brown played 25 minutes
McGee played 24 minutes
AD played 20 and a half minutes
Blatche played 14 minutes
NY played 20 minutes
McGuire played 13 minutes
Dixon and Thomas each collected a DNP-CD

Wins are fun, we should do this again sometime. Welcome back, DeShawn.

by Jon L on Dec 2, 2008 9:52 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I think we found

the backup SF, the team always needed. When Arenas gets back, I hope they can keep the big three under 36 minutes a game. Dee Brown, McGuire and Songaila are all decent backups and should help alleviate some stress off the starters. Because if they don’t limit their minutes, I smell another half season of only a big two due to health.

I'm an optimistic pessimist

The Optimist in me says: “This is just the 1st win of 42 more – and the Wizards will make the Playoffs.”

The Pessimist in me says: “One less ping pong ball”

Any win is nice. Good job, Wiz. Keep it going.

Solid W

The ball movement and shooting was unreal. I kept waiting for the fade but it never transpired.

What? They don't have TV in the D-League? Don't watch me, watch TV.

I Said it Before and I'll Say it Again

This does not look like a low-level lottery team to me. The Wizards are much better than their record shows at this point. When they get Gilbert back (hopefully by early January), they’ll be even better. I still think this team can squeak into the playoffs. Blowing out two teams in 8 days certainly helps. Now is not the time to tank and rebuild!

However, if the Wizards are still way out of the picture by February, then I’ll fully come on board the retool and wait for next season approach. But I’m more optimistic right now than I have been all season. I really like what Tapscott is doing with this team.
