"Someone asked me the other day if I have a dog house. I said, 'No I don't have a dog house, I have a Palace of Good Play.' I'm looking for someone who's playing well so I can put them in that palace."

Ed Tapscott on his coaching rotations, according to the Washington Times.

Tapscott further confuses his family members by referring to the kitty litter box as the “Temple of Relief.”

Little things

Ed Tapscott keeps talking about all the “little things” that the Wizards are not doing – and that they are costing them games.

As a Wizards fan – I decided to look at the POSITIVES.
All those little positive things that we, as Wizards Fans, need to keep our hopes up until next October

In the latest game against the Pacers:

  • Ed Tapscott didn’t play Etan Thomas even one minute (yeah, yeah, I know – he was out of town……. But Ed didn’t play him – that’s a positive)
  • Pecherov was on the floor for 2:26 and only shot one 3-pointer
  • JaVale McGee had 2 blocks in a little less than 9 minutes – that’s almost 11 blocks per 48 minutes.
  • Stevenson was 2-6 from the field…..uh…. OK, that sucks….um.. he fouled out?… OK, that sucks too….. How about: he had more assists (3) than Turn Overs (2). (HAH…. I knew I’d find something)
  • Songaila played about 11 minutes and got one rebound (HEY, that’s a positive……for him.)
  • Nick Young (the future SG on this team) played 5 minutes, shot 1-4 for 2 points, but only turned the ball over once. THAT should get him some more playing time!
  • Juan Dixon, our starting PG, played 32 minutes, had 5 points on a poor shooting night (2-8), but didn’t get any of his shots blocked and had 3 BIG assists.
  • Mike James only shot the ball 5 times in 18 minutes – a major decrease in his shots per minute. (considering his shooting percentage of 26%, it’s a HUGE positive if he shoots less)
  • There was a J.Crittenton sighting.

Anyone else?

Hey – I know you guys are a positive bunch of Wizards Fans….

I can’t have seen ALL the positive things that happened in the game… What did you see?

The only positive for me -

is that I didn’t watch the game and didn’t break anything in frustration. That’s all I got.

The positives under Tapscott

Blatche and Songaila have played better under Tapscott and ET seems to realize McGuire’s value as a defensive stopper off the bench.

A few more positives

Songaila made all 4 of his shots.
Blatche looked very good on offense. There were really only two shots that I didn’t think he should’ve taken.
It’s pretty much impossible to blame Nick Young now for the poor perimeter defense.
Crittenton had as many rebounds in two and a half minutes as Songaila did in 11 (think of it as a positive for Crittenton).

Would someone tell me why

Dixon is playing 32 minutes, Young is playing 5 minutes and McGee is playing 9 minutes! Good God Tapscott I thought things would change under you!

Evidently-

Young and McGee are not in the palace of good play. How he knows this when they barely even play is beyond me. Could have fooled me about the doghouse.

Fire ET

Of course, the ironic thing is… the players he is playing aren’t in the palace of good play… Not even close

You know, the quote is really silly

But it comes from the poor line of questioning. No coach is going to admit he has a “doghouse.” The best way to get a real sense of a player rotation is simply to ask why Nick Young or whoever has seen their minutes cut. Don’t ask if they’re in the “doghouse.”

You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

I love that quote

I like Taps and the way he thinks (or at least talks). I think there is an actual difference between doghouse and non-palace. Especially for a team on such thin mental ice as ours.

Beware of coaches with law degrees...

also coaches who were once players agents…

I actually like Tap, but why doesn’t he put the guys who are in the general vicinity of the palace of good play TOGETHER in the starting lineup.

This would necessitate moving Butler to the 2 guard to accommodate Jamison, Blatche and either McGee or (yes, believe it on the numbers, Songaila) up front. The point guard in this configuration should either be James (look at his assists per minute played) or Stevenson (assists and rebounds are not all that hideous, so let’s give him credit for Darrell Walker-like numbers).

The point is that it’s pretty much rearranging deck chairs on a submarine (forget the Titanic, they had a pretty good trip going until they ran into that one problem).

Hmm, on the other hand, maybe we should start the five with the highest average of draft numbers (Jamison, McGee, Butler, Dixon and Young… I think)… Go get ’em Tap your guess is as good as any.
